Nick, thanks for this vid and opening up my eyes to try my favorite bait that I use in soft water, on hard water whitefish on the bay. Ned Rig Forever!!

There's a bait shop up in Oconto that is selling some limited edition Golby Jigging Rapalas. I'm not sure if other places will sell them, but I can't wait to get my hands on a few! Just about any golby immitation seems to work well since that's what they're feeding on up there.

Hi Nick, do you still have any of the tongs left. I would like to buy 2 or 3 for ice fishing this season. I really like the idea. Thanks.

Nice adventure Nick. I’ve never been white fishing before, it looks like fun. Which do you prefer to fish for? whites or walleye? Which one tastes better in your opinion?
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Whitefish are a blast to catch through the ice. The fish fight hard and your bringing them up from deep water so it takes awhile to get them in. When prepped correctly they are great table fare. I think they get a bad rap because they are slimy and stinky on the outside but if you bleed them out and stay away from the dark meat and fish fat while cleaning they are awesome. Lately I just lightly coat them with olive oil and spices place the meat on a glass plate with the thickest pieces to the outside and cover with plastic wrap and microwave for around 3 min. at 1/2 power. When all pieces are bright white and easily come apart when forked they are done. You can eat them at this point or use them as the meat for fish tacos (soft shells). For fish tacos I like making a creamy sriracha lime sauce (mayo, sour cream, garlic powder, sriracha, and lime juice mixed together) and top with diced onion, cucumber, and shredded lettuce or cabbage. The whitefish is real mild like tilapia meat so you actually taste the spices or sauce more than the fish. When I prepare walleye i usually fry it with a shore lunch style batter but the meat is really similar just not a oily. Both are good for eating (i like them both equally) and i prefer to fish for the whitefish when ice fishing but would go for walleye out of my boat or kayak. Good luck on your next adventure.

Whats whitefish limit? Not many places to catch them where I'm at. Finger lakes area. So dont know much about them
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Limit is 10 per person. Whitefish are cousins to salmon and are very good table fare when properly prepared.

You're soposed to turn the camera off while you're setting up so you're not tempted to fish before you're set up all the way 😂🤣 sweet video as always

Would using the camera as top view work in the current better? I just got my revolution pro and was hoping to be able to use it for whitefish on the bay.
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
It might. You could also try attaching the trolling weight or position the camera to look up on a angle and set it right on bottom. I was thinking about those tactics afterwards. Good luck on your next adventure.

Definitely looks like u catch better quality fish on the plastics
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
@@josepheisner9468 yes the bigger fish liked the bottom rig (bigger bait that looked like what they are eating) plus these baits are buoyant so the tail sticks up making it easy for them to grab.

Love your fish grabber! Having an underwater camera is great for learning fish behavior but when fishing whitefish in my experience I've had more luck when not using one of those. After a while the fish get spooked by them and swim away. Have you ever noticed that on the camera? Once I learned their behaviors I stopped using one.
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure the camera does hinder when the fish are spooky but I love using it and seeing what is going on down there. When the fish are spooky it is also a good idea to turn off your locator and go old school. Easier said than done because we all get in the habit using the electronics and don't want to change. Good luck on your next adventure.

@@NoFishNicksAdventures I fish the Madison chain mostly and mostly for bluegills. I leave the electronics at home and do a ton of hole hopping in 6-8 feet of water and tons of weeds. I fish with homemade Pulsator rods. 1 pound flurocarbon leader is almost a must to get those finicky fish to bite. But I learned a lot about those fish while sitting in a shack and looking at a camera. it's just in order to catch good numbers you have to be willing to move a lot!

@@NoFishNicksAdventures Speaking of the "little camera" in Ice Hole Adventure 12 (2019)…...What "little camera" are you using? Contemplating getting one, perhaps a 7-9" screen size. (Don't like the big of a unit due to bulky size). Plan to mount the camera above the handle on my Vexilar. See any issues doing that?
@NoFishNicksAdventures4 жыл бұрын
My little camera is a Aqua-vu Revolution 5 Pro. Works great for scouting and is 100 times easier to deal with than the big camera. Some kind of flexible or movable mount system might work for you but you need to be able to pull it off and put it back on easily. Good luck with your set up.

How do u set up ur Stop on slider rig?
@NoFishNicksAdventures5 жыл бұрын
It's just a small hook free floating on the line above your swivel. The stop is just a very small split shot sinker placed a few inches above the hook and swivel. You could also set it up like a drop shot but I like using a swivel for going that deep. It keeps the your line from getting all twisted. Good luck.
