An interesting life you've had. Thank you for sharing. Good to see that you are home safe from the Canaries. Being a survivor of Mt. St. Helens eruption , and having climbed it many times prior, I worried for your safety due to unpredictability of volcanoes etc.

I last visited Iceland in 2012 during Solar Maxim with intention to view Aurora, alas as it happened, there wasn’t much of a CME display during my visit. I drove a fair way around the island but don’t recall seeing the central barrier crash prevention wires then. Is this a recent development? During my time on Iceland I experienced high winds and snow storms and at times, it required great concentration to maintain a straight track on the road. I passed many accidents where vehicles had been blown off the road and crashed. I suspect these tensioned wires help to prevent vehicles crossing the central reservation and thus are great safety measure. My lasting impression of Iceland is the striking austere landscapes and widely spaced, almost isolated cluster of settlements set between miles of ash swept highways.

ROMAN! did you color your beard and moustache or did all that extra s/shine in La Palma give you that dark facial hair? I agree with all you said about the Icelandic environment, it is still a quite pristine/contrasting and beautiful land, I sense also that life and the ppl. are much less conflicted or confused about the world.
