Our Itinerary and tips
TIip: Flight tickets from USA to Iceland is really cheap, check out WOW Air in advance and buy an extra baggage while booking the flight itself as its cheap. WOW allows only a backpack upto 10 kgs for free.
Day 1, Nov 24th: We took an evening flight from Baltimore and landed Iceland around 6am. We had rented a car and pick up was from airport. We freshened up at the airport and picked the car and started towards the Pingveller national park. Our plan for the day was to cover the whole golden circle. The roads to Pingveller national park was closed and we had drove atleast half way to it. So we had to return down the loop and use the other side of the loop to get to Geyser and Gullfoss. After visting these places we went to our hotel in Selfoss.
Day 2, Nov 25th: Plan for the day was to cover all the places in south coast
Started towards south and covered Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Solheimasandur Plane crash Site and we drove to the cottage we booked for the night an hour closer to Jokulsarlon
There is only like 6 hours of sunlight and lot of driving so could not cover all the places we had planned to.
Day 3, Nov 26th: Jokulsarlon Ice Caves
We drove to Jokulsarlon to do our ice cave tour, the views and nature here will take your breath away. There is a Diamond beach close by and there was nothing we had seen like this on earth before.
On the way back we made a stop at skaftafell, there is a hike to Svortifoss but we did not have crampons and the cramps they were selling were expensive. So we decided not to do it as anyway it was getting dark. So we drove back to our hotel in Vic.
Day 4, Nov 27th: We started the day going to the reynisfjara beach, did some pre wedding photoshoot with my girl in that freezing cold weather. Next we went to Sejavallalaug swimming Pool, the views and the pool was great, but the water wasn’t even warm to get into it. Next we went to blue lagoon from here and this place is amazing. The best place to stay warm in Iceland is here. It feels so relaxing and nice here we stayed there almost for 2 hours. Went back to the Airbnb we had had booked in Reykjavik
Day 5, Nov 28th: We drove around Reykjavik, saw the Sólfarið - Sun Voyager, Hallgrimskirkja church and left to the airport to end our trip.
More Tips Below:
Iceland is crazy expensive, I was paying like $100 fuel everyday for an SUV for like 150 miles.
Dominos Pizza was like $35 for a medium.
Some restaurants we went to, a Pizza and a soup would cost $50.
Gas stations are far away, so fuel up whenever you see one.
Buy stuff from Bonus like fruits, vegies, cup noodles. And make small meals if you want to do the trip on a budget.
