Thank you! It's an incredible place and the fishing is really the icing on the cake. I would have loved to catch something at Haifoss and we didn't manage to hook into any really big trout this time. But the experience and the adventure more than made up for it ;)

Fished that river too with the waterfall from the farm. So many fish that you can see. The pool down from the underground bit is tough fishing but rewarding.
@SouthsideFlyFishing4 жыл бұрын
Richard, it's some place isn't it! We walked/fished along a number of the pools and the pool downstream that you mentioned was quite productive too. I think between us we must have had about half a dozen fish. There were some absolute monsters cruising about but they seemed stuck to the bottom in the deepest part of the pool and getting a fly down to them was really tricky. Next time I'll bring some split shot ;)

Thanks mate! It was so funny watching the footage back - I'm rarely able to spot trout in the rivers I fish here in Scotland and we were like daft kids watching those big trout cruising around in the crystal clear water! Glad you enjoyed the vid :)

Really great looking trip. Do you think local knowledge is essential in Iceland? Trying to work out if I could do something similar without needing a guide.
@SouthsideFlyFishing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! You can absolutely do a DIY trip and have a great time. But I would 100% recommend fishing with a guide in Iceland. I’m lucky that my best friend is Icelandic and knows dozens of local anglers. However we still spent literally hours driving up and down trying to access the water or locate productive looking spots. If it’s your first time, booking a guide, even for a day or two, would help you send more of your time fishing. You’d also avoid getting into potentially compromising situations. We’ve been lost, had cars get stuck and probably been quite lucky over the years. Again that’s doing it all with a local!

Hi Sean, love your videos. Looks like an awesome trip. Were you able to sort out permits when you arrived or did you book them in advance ? There is a lot of info for rivers on tour operators sites but difficult to find info on more reasonably priced rivers. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Keep making great videos

Awesome vids man, so well edited! That waterfall is insane. I might be going to iceland in july, but with my mom, might be able to manage 1 or 2 days of fishing at most. Could you recommend a stream for me to try? Ideally with good chance of catching browns :) thank man! JJ from south africa
@SouthsideFlyFishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks JJ. I've been to Iceland a few times but my buddy has always arranged the fishing. I don't know how easy it is to find out information/arrange permits directly as the website he used to book our fishing was all Icelandic language. There is a tackle shop in downtown Reykjavik, and there are plenty of guides/outfitters you can find online if you want to go down that route. Aardvark McLeod would be worth getting in touch with - Pete's a great guy. Sorry that's not super helpful. But I do hope you make it over. It's a stunning country 🙏🏼🐟

In Scotland most brown trout have a red spot here and there, but I ` ve noticed none on Icelandic" brow trout " They look a different species.
@SouthsideFlyFishing3 жыл бұрын
Good observation mate. I’ve read they’re genetically sea trout that were landlocked after the last ice age. Beautiful fish!

@SouthsideFlyFishing3 жыл бұрын
You’re definitely no nuts! It’s fascinating to look at brown trout across the world and see all of the variations you get. But aye, from what I’ve been told anyway, these fish would have been sea trout for thousands of generations before being landlocked as the ice retreated
