Most sights can be reached via the ring road with a normal rental car, but if you really want to experience the seclusion and breathtaking nature, you should swap your car for an off-road vehicle for at least one day. Together with guide Bessi and his dog Cami we spend a day in the highlands. A highlight: the trip to the active volcano Hekla. Snorkeling in Iceland? Absolutely! The water temperature of the glacier water in the Silfra fissure is only around four degrees Celsius, but it is so clear that a snorkeling tour here becomes an unforgettable experience.
Silfra is a rift between the Eurasian and American tectonic plates. Due to the natural filtering of the lava fields you can snorkel in the clearest water in the world and that means the best view. While Nina and Jonas snorkel in thick dry suits, their guide Hedinn only needs a wetsuit. The Icelandic freedive champion dives without oxygen and takes beautiful pictures of this amazing place.
In Reykjavik, Nina and Jonas try what is said to be the best cinnamon rolls in Iceland and the best hot dog in the world, which even Bill Clinton ate here. Iceland is not only the filming location for the successful series "Game of Thrones", but also the homeland of the actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who embodies "the mountain" in the series. He runs his own gym in the capital, Reykjavik. He won the title of the strongest man in the world and invites Nina to a training session in his gym.
The film authors learn from the German Evelyn that in Iceland you can never say "pony" to an Icelandic horse - for the Icelanders that is an insult that can hardly be made up for. Evelyn not only lost her heart to an Icelandic man, but also to Icelandic horses. On a ride, the beginners Nina and Jonas get to know the patient, robust animals and experience the breathtaking landscape on horseback.
And how do you relax in Iceland after a long day of travel? In the countless hot springs. Often hidden and in the middle of nature, a bath is a highlight that should not be missing on any trip to Iceland. Ice climbing on the glacier, Icelandic horses and active volcanoes
