The rescue service in Hella (this event has been a fundraiser for them since 1970) own the van. So our recommendation is to get lost in the southern part of Iceland (Hekla, the volcano in the background would be a good start) and then you would get rescued by that van :D

Does anyone ever put slicks/race track tires on one of these vehicles and driven it on the pavement? Seems like it would be a lot of fun, they look like very versatile machines

The completely locked diffs and different ratios between front and back means it's very difficult to drive these cars as is on racetracks. But with some modifications it would be fantastic!

Thor Thormar Palsson sold the KFC truck back to Snorri Thor and it's now called the Choirboy again, like it was back in 2016. Thor Thormar is in the process of building a new truck, he will hopefully be back in 2022 ;)

@@MoistGrundle Atli Jamil sold his car to Johann Gunnlaugsson, still called Thunderbolt but now pink :) Atli was the Icelandic Rallycross champion last year in a 500 hp Toyota Yaris ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/imPKeIyXlpebfqM ) Haukur Einarsson has got a new BBC engine in Hekla that wasn't ready in time for the Hella Offroad. He will compete in the next race in Egilsstadir ;)

Great to see the new season of Formula Offroad! Is it Icelandic law that your second name ends in 'Son', or is it just part of the technical regulations for the series? Or, does son mean 'one with huge balls' in Icelandic?

No one in Iceland has a surname like most other nations use. Instead, if your dads name is Gudmundur, you are Gudmundsson. Female surnames end with dóttir (daughter), e.g. Gudmundsdottir ;)

4 Wheel steering is also more parts that can break, you need pure rugged reliability over complex systems here or you miss half the race trying to repair your car.
