In the mountains of Appalachia, the next challenge with our ICF house build is to assemble, lift and set the main support beam into the basement beam pockets. This is a 3 ply, 41 foot long, LVL that weighs almost 800 pounds.
Also check out Smokey's CNC Woodworks and get yourself a cool wooden sign for your homestead, shop or business: • Off Grid Living Logo (...

Nurse here: pain is your friend in many ways, it will remind you if you are doing too much or if you moved wrong. Listen to the pain! You don't want a back relapse in the middle of this. Praying that doesn't happen. And for all the homesteaders who are rushing before winter sets in. Stay safe.

I built 5 beams 48 ft long - 3-2x12x16s sandwiched with 2 1/2 plywood 8’ long 11” wide , all staggered joints glued and nailed . We were a hell of a lot younger and only had to pick them up 8 ft at a time , weeks apart ! Good move calling the crane , it was worth it no matter what it cost ! Installed in minutes and nobody got hurt !

@@colstace2560 'IF' the house catches fire. No kidding it will burn either way. It's how much time it takes to do-so. In case of a fire, you generally want more time to get out and to put the fire out.Tests have shown wood lasts more than twice as long before collapsing.

When you get some wood and concrete floors to roll around on the harbor freight scaffolding is a great buy for doing all the fun inside jobs you would normally be on a ladder for. No glue with the nails? Its the key component to LVL ( lamination veneer lumber) and Glulam composite beams. extra tight water proof chemical bonding prevents moisture penetration and thus wood movement due to humidity and is the main engineering behind the LVL concept. Nails while they are strong, are just the mechanical fasteners that "clamps" and holds the layers together while the glue cures. Over time nails will rust but the glue doesnt. ????
@Guildbrookfarm

This is an (over) engineered assembly. Galvanized nails won’t rust especially indoors. No glue is required here.
