Lot easier to cover the top of the forms with packing tape than to clean the concrete out after the basement forms.
@LakeLotBuild

You are SO RIGHT! We had planned on doing that but it rained the morning of the pour and so the tape would not stick. Definitely a lot easier to use the tape!

Saw one owner/builder used a plastic box ( dollar store type storage box) with a trio of slots cut in the bottom in the shape of a capital i. Two scraps of wood kept the slot open to fit the internal width of the blocks, and when the box sat on the blocks, it directed the concrete straight down the cavity. No mess, wasted concrete or contaminated joints. Also meant that as the box was slid along, the concrete was a couple of inches below the top of the block, ready for the next pour, with a slightly textured but relatively level surface.

@@WhatsThatItsPat good point. I suppose it could only be used in a wall that was not being raised higher in a later pour, or the ‘bucket’ could be lifted and replaced instead of being slid.

Am building a timber frame Hybrid here in the Rockies and gonna pour the walk-out basement using Foxblocks (we only decided that 4 days ago after putting a calculator to everything).. because while ours is 2 stories the timber frame roof slopes all the way from a 45' peak to the first floor headers via a 12/12 45° pitch so half that above grade concrete outside will be mortered with stone as will the entire front of the house and then half of the backside is a wood stone mix since it vant be seen from the steeet. That said we switch mfgs from another popular brand to Foxblocks for several reasons and am curious what system or method you used to anchor your first floor in with to the basement Foxblocks? Also why didn't you just pour up 16' in one pour vs. doing the two separate pours? In Arizine now, this style build is so popular in bushland areas around Scottsdale where my brother lives they poured the entire 1st floor in concrete too b/c they HAD to. It's code there now as it's fire proof for the most part. Also it's hard to tell the size of your build and if you're heading up one more story. Based on just 3 windows and 2 doors I'm thinking it looks bigger on our computer screen than in real life. Can I guess 30' x 40'? 1 story or 2? Sorry no time to look at other videos and my apologies if you cover this already earlier. I just typed in 1st floor fox blocks and yours was the first video to pop up with actual Lego above grade. All the others were setting up just their basement. So was glad to see your project. Great view! Though bet the neighbors across the street aren't very happy. We just finished paying off our Evergreen CO lot esp if you go 2 stories? I paid extra to get a 4 peak view as close to the lake as possible and off the deck and our (once c ini a ged) 2nd story master French door walkout to a 12' "coffee patio" we have a full view from 8,800 ft of all downtown of Denver out to the airport on a clear day. Last Q. What finishes are you using inside and out? Assume a wood cladding outside and 0drywall inside? Standard rafters on roof with std shingles or any timber works? Looks awesome. The best part of Fox blocks besides ease of setup is there's little teardown and you are already fully insulated. I lived in Siloam Springs ARK during my college years and built cabins during the summers so know enough to be dangerous. Plus technology has advanced so much in 20 years look at what yall did in a 12 hour day! Can't wait to see the finished product. I know you have better things to do than surf youtube and answer Q's - but truly would like your feedback on the joists used for the main floor and why you didn't pour 2 walls all at once? The AZ builds I've seen do that on some but not all. Oh one last thought. How thicj are your walls without styrofoam? (Just the concrete part?) Looks rather skinny ... 8"? May I ask with Foxblocks what your concrete bill was or better said: just what they charge per sq ft or yard? Trying to do apples and apples here but we ordered 10" walls because of the 3 levels in back. Great vid and great plan/house! Hope y'all enjoy!! cheers BB

Hi! Thank you for watching. We have a video about hanging the floor joists. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHK0gKeuo7ymidU That might help answer your question about joists and the Fox Block anchors. Our walls are actually over 20' tall since our basement and footer was poured monolithic and our upstairs has 10 foot ceilings. Our builder would not have been comfortable pouring 20' of concrete at one time because there is too much risk of blow out for the bottom blocks. We used metal roofing as our siding (seamless, custom). We have a video on it and the wood work that we did on the outside as well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXO9iYdnrpiol6c Our walls are 8" of concrete and 2" of Styrofoam on each side. I hope that helps!

@Lake Lot Build thanks much. When I first saw your video and all the other projects by other builders which were only working w/ basements, I just assumed you all had just started your build and only made the 1 video. Never even thought to search for others. My bad. Duh me! That said; I see now you have almost every aspect covered and your videos have answered the lion's share of my Qs already. So my apologies for the lengthy missive and for the Chinese fire drill when you've already made videos addressing most if not all of my questions and concerns. I'll set aside time this weekend to go thru the links you shared plus any other videos and see if everything lines up with what our supplier told us too. Kind regards, BB

Having taller ceiling heights (9' and 10') would have been accentuated even more if you had put in taller windows and doors. 8' Doors are not much of a price increase and makes the rooms feel even larger as does adding an extra foot to window heights. When I remodeled I actually reduced the width of some of my windows and patio door openings but the increase height makes the opening seem much more impressive.
