Quick thing about running lights mod: yes, it is borderline cheat, but on one hand it does have a slight delay (light changes 3-4 seconds after the ship has already changed behaviour), and it also helps low-end pcs running the game on low graphic where the water and ship settings aren't enough to give a clear idea of whether or not the ship is moving or not
@FrogOnAHorse4 жыл бұрын
I have to play on the minimum most settings and on certain maps I literally cannot tell if theyre moving or if its just the water, so that would help vastly

Great video. It's just sad that it takes third party CC's to have to show this off, as a lot of players aren't aware of a lot of these settings. This is something that WG really should look into for some sort of tutorial. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of players are struggling with the game simply because they don't have it set up correctly.

I would recommend to show the circle on the minimap, which indicates the detectability range by air. It helps when there are aircraft in the game. You can more easily estimate when you will be spotted by aircraft and you may be able to avoid it. Additionally, on ships where you use a full secondary build, displaying the range of the secondaries can be useful too. I would not recommend to use all circles, as more circles make it harder to identify the relevant information, as the interface gets overloaded.

Ship info is also good for knowing what your ship stats are when you are grinding several ships and jumping from one to another. Forget what the detectability in smoke is when firing because you just jumped in a different cruiser. It’s on the ship info mod. It will allow you get down to that last 0.1k to eek out the last salvo before skedaddling. Also a larger mini map will allow you to aim with the shell impact indicator better to snag that pesky ship hiding behind an island that is spotted. Just put the circle ⭕️ over the ship and send them to the deep. A mini map at the smallest setting can easily cause you to overshoot when you can’t see them from the 3rd person view.

ICHASE - I love your willingness to help us with these tutorials; but I have a very important questions pertaining to this tutorial. 1 - All too often I see players telling everybody in battle chat that they are going left or right. To interpret the information they just provided, a player has to: A - Figure out who posted it. B - Hit TAB to see what ship they are playing. C - Look around your ship to find their ship if there is more than one of their ship type in game (and this only works if they're in your spotting range). D - figure out which way their ship is heading in order to figure out what left and right actually means. SO THE QUESTION IS THIS... Why did you not mention leaving the Rotate Minimap setting turned off AND instruct players to learn to use only the fixed directions of North (up), South (down), East (right), and West (left) when posting their intent?

Great that you make an updated beginners guide! Much needed I feel, in the last half year. :) But I got one issue that is the use of MODs.. You say it yourself f.ex about the running light, and there are more options /mods that make the game close to just auto aim. As a new player, that dont want to do the work or might get tempted, to not learn the game, and get the feeling for the game. Using mods is a quick fix, and imo something that is to easy to do. And in these days, were cheating is a very known issue in a lot of games and many are used to pay themself to an advantage. Using every helping mechanic both legal and borderline legal, or moraly in a grey zone is gonna get used by many. Then its a bit disappointing, that you show such mods in your beginner guide(outside the in-game ones). When at least I want the community to have a quality and honour(?) to itself :) I have played since Beta, I know every mechanic in the game, I know the main important traits to almost every ship. So I know what to do in almost every situation, and I know almost everytime what I did wrong when I do. I notice almost instant, if a ship moves forward or backwards in my fingertips. If a DD most likely have launched torps, or when to steer away from them before they come. Its intuition, since I played for so long. But I do mistakes. And here is where my issue with mod is, as the game need to have an element of failure. We cant always hit with every shot, or have new players get into the game with a system of guidlines around them that give them so much information that they lose that awesome feeling of mastery of WoWs. Thats what keeping me playin, that I get challenged to use my experience & knowledge :) I understand that WoWs has a steep learning curve if you get into the game today. But I hoped that you iChase cud learn beginners without showing them the easy way out.. :)
@MyXrayz4 жыл бұрын
That is the same moral problem i have. I do hate the current dynamic crosshair since its kinda buggy BUT i also dislike playing with cheats that maybe the half of my enemy team never heard of. But i also dislike playing against veterans who are using all of these mods or even more. I dont know if i use them or not. I dont want to play this game in easy mode but i want to have the same fair conditions as other (better) players.
@Paisa2314 жыл бұрын
@@MyXrayz Hm, the reality is u aint gonna get from both worlds.. You just need to play the game, and be open minded when playin as iChase have said in a video before :) And use static crosshair, it will be more consistent when you use different ships ;)

I have two big questions as a GK operator: 1: How to deal with fire throwers behind islands. 2: How to deal with running and manoeuvering fire throwers.
@MidnightPhoenix075 жыл бұрын
1. Pray to RNGesus that they don’t set fires 2. Pray to RNGesus that your shells hit in the same continent (or wait for the upcoming dispersion buff, and then still pray to RNGesus that your shells will land in the same country) Then there’s also the map and situational awareness aspects - know where the fire breathers are likely going to be hiding and try to be in a position where you can’t get focused down, or find a way to get on their flank or set up a cross fire with another big gunned ship and force the fire breathers to move somewhere else.

Was watching Potato_Quality on Twitch earlier and he turned off the “Track target” option in the Controls menu camera section. Apparently it seems to him like it resulted in better dispersion. Maybe that’s just because if the target is moving across the screen the crosshair is also moving, thus taking control away from the player? Probably not a thing for newer players but those of us who like to adjust aim and pick spots on ships might have something to consider.
@WyvernApalis5 жыл бұрын
In settings it's auto lock, he probably turned it off to manual lock. Locking on makes the shots far more accurate because it's a mechanic, you should always lock on to fire

I really want to use some of these essential mods but i feel somehow that i make the game kinda easier for me? It actually feels like im playing with cheats against players who never heard of these mods since they are not activated by default (WGs fault..). Especially the nomogram mod is like an aiming help but since i know that the dynamic crosshair is kinda fucked, i dont know if some little "cheating" thourgh mods is essential to win against good and experienced veterans who are using mods for some years. I really hate cheats but on the other side i want stay competitive as i come up to higher tiers. Running lights mod: The Running lights mod is actually a cheat since it destroys your ability to dodge enemy shells with ship speed and quick "stops". WG should ban them asap. This is a reason why there is such a big "skill" - gap in the playerbase and why most of the matches are one-sided. It kills the balance in the game (which is very low anyways thanks to WG).

Okay fine! I launched the Mod Station from the Mod Station installation program "Finish" Window and selected many of the things you pointed out. I also selected Captain Skills and don't like the extra "clutter" on my game screen because I really already know what the captain's skill are before going into battle and don't really need it displayed for the entire battle. Now how exactly do I turn it off? I don't know where the Mod Station got stored and IT DIDN'T CREATE A DESKTOP ICON TO LAUNCH IT! Evidently it is too much to ask that it be capable of being launched from the Game Center like common sense says it should be since it is WG approved! If I use File Explorer and search "MY PC" and enter Mod Station in the search field; the only thing it finds in my entire PC is a .jpeg file titled OT_MOD STATION LOADER which obviously CANNOT launch the Mod Station!

LOVING these videos. I am very much of the, "growth mindset," hence why I am watching this series. I feel I lost a bit after playing their Halloween game. I KILL while playing the Mass, yet suck at anything larger. I want to be well-rounded and be able to do well with all ship classes. Namely, right now, I am struggling with the Shimi. I know she has potential, I just don't know how to play her effectively. Same with the Atl, Yammi, and Montana. Any help would be appreciated. I just seem to always find myself in the middle of a damned firing squad.
@Tearnofear5 жыл бұрын
Shimi? Turn on the "show last position" thing (I watched the whole vid twice but i couldnt find him mention it and i dont know where to find the setting xD). It is essential so you know who you are going against (what DD, Radars.. And you can see what the enemy team is doin. Or tryin to do^^). Play with your concealment, you have the best of all DDs (dont forget some hydro might detect you further out). Scout, Cap and use your torps to make the enemy have to react. Learn to torp preemptive. Its mostly better to just run without smoking up and use your concealment, just dont fire your guns. Use your smoke to help friendly cruiser or gun-heavy DDs. Do NOT sit in your own smoke while being blind. If you cap, its often a good strategy to turn around before the cap and move in backwards, so you can run faster if needed :) Use Islands as cover, but don't sit there for no reason. Remember, you need to know whats around you. "I just seem to always find myself in the middle of a damned firing squad" i'm kind a sure you don't know my first advice xD (if so, us the minimap more often)

The "running lights" mod isn't that overpowered, I don't think. I mean, it's usefulness is kinda limited to figuring out the next move of a stationary target. However, it usually takes the mod a few seconds to actually show you either a green or red light. So, it doesn't really do the job entirely for you and I often still have to try and predict their movement and think of what would make sense for them to do next, in order to give my salvo enough lead.

I wouldn’t call running lights a borderline cheat. While I realize WoWS is an arcade style game in the real world on board ships rangefinders would be reporting to a captain if the range to target was increasing or decreasing and based on the ships movement they could quickly calculate the approximate speed and direction of travel of the target. Running lights is also most useful against static or very slow moving targets which would have been even easier using optical rangefinders to figure out the targets approximate speed and direction. My concern is that by calling a reasonable tool a borderline cheat, may be discouraging to some players in its use setting them up for a disadvantage since it is a WG sanctioned mod anyone of their opponents may be using that very mod against them. To use an analogy when the germans began unrestricted submarine warfare other nations followed suit even though up until when the germans began the practice it was considered to be too dirty a move to sink ships by sub without first surfacing and giving the ships crews a chance to evacuate. Better to just explain the mod and let people themselves draw the conclusion or not if its a borderline cheat rather than making that judgement call for them. Otherwise great vid and bang on the money, I will be referring this vid to new players and clan mates for sure, good game

But.. you are here on his channel watching his video. He isnt expressing WG official view on things just his own and he thinks this is "borderline cheat". So as he said.. either go for it or dont , up to you.

I tried a couple of mods from the modstation but they made my PC crash so now I'm back to plain vanilla.

Weird, I don't tend to go too crazy with the mods, only essentials. If you have issues please contact WG support for help?
