I think Ichigo being *forced* to become the Soul King would've started a civil war within the Seireitei, as well as well as major conflicts with current and now former allies that may result in it's destruction. In Favor: Squad Zero, Urahara(possibly), Shunsui, Sui-Feng/Stealth Force, Byakuya(maybe), Mayuri, Toshiro(possibly) and probably some fodder Soul Reapers Against: Isshin, the Visored's, Grimmjow, Nelliel, Rukia, Renji, Kenpachi/Squad 11, Rangiku, Hanataro, Yoruichi, his friends, Jinta, Ururu, Dordonii(though he'd be under Mayuri's control), the Fullbringers(possibly), the Shiba clan ect.

Because I could totally imagine a sequel (following the trend) set in the far off future of the bleach verse where he's become more bitter and jaded towards soul society while he's been suspended as soul King. It could be set in a time where Aizens sentence is coming to an end. Two remnants of a forgotten era, however this time Ichigo takes the role of an antagonist as well. After all you either die a hero or live long enough to be the villain.

Kruoth if you’re going to have a sad ending where main characters die it needs to still have some quality of good, like a sacrifice made by the protagonist to save the world. If Ichigo was forcibly made into the souls king after everything he had done to save the Soul Society it would completely solidify the Soul Society as evil, justifying actions from people like Aizen and Yhwach making all the past trials and tribulations pointless. It would also more then likely lead to the deaths of his friends as they would for sure try to save him and ultimately meet their fate at the hands of the captains or the zero squad, further discrediting the soul society. I don’t mind a sad ending, but it has to be done right in order to keep fans satisfied and happy with the ending which makes it much harder to pull off then having a simple happy ending where most people are satisfied.

Soul society is not an organization of good people, it was stated multiple time the horrible actions they did. Shunsui stated that when a war starts both parts are evil, true af. Mind you, I don't agree with the dismemberment of the Soul King (especially since he did everything to go along with the nobles of his own free will even when they imprisoned him) but it is either have a soul king or the entire universe gets annihilated. I'd have hated to see it happen to Ichigo but it very well could've been the only choice left had Yhwach not been a transcendent (since it HAS to be a transcendent) by absorbing the soul king's powers. Ichigo would've probably agreed to it in the end even if they didn't try to force him to or surprise attack him, given that the alternative is literally just the end of the world as we know it.

I haven't read the novels, but I think there's a part where there was a time where the soul king wasn't imprisoned, it was only done so BC the nobles were afraid of his power. Therefore it's possible to be the lynchpin of the universe without being in that state of limbo. So I think if ever it was so koyrakus plan was to have ichigo as the soul king but not seal him away, hell just have to stay in the soul palace forever, thus the soul tickets to his friends and family in the living

There was a fanfiction one-shot on archive of our own with that premise. It was interesting, but rather short and a lot of stuff wasn't touched upon as far as I remember. Spoiler: Ichigo got turned into the new Soul King and retaliated by slowly restructuring the system: Taking away the shinigamis' powers, turning Seireitei into a winter-wonderland and trapping those that hadn't already left as ice sculptures, giving Soul Society a really harsh winter and so on.

The biggest issue with shounen mangas are the endings for the main characters, they ALWAYS settle down and have a kid. The female main character always becomes a house wife regardless of how Uber powerful they are they always become weak and a house wife aka Sakura and Hinayana from naruto. The the male main character always end up with some office job he hates regardless having the power to destroy the earth and or universe aka Ichigo. Why would anyone with super powers settle down in a shitty job when you can literally do anything. Period. Anyway that’s my rant for today thanks

As they say: great powers come with greater responsibilities. Ichigo never wanted to save the world or random people for that matter. He only cared about the safety of his family and close friends. He always had that mindset since the very beginning.

Thanks for explaining this! I read somewhere that in the CFYOW volume 3 somebody talks about a correlation between Fullbringer's powers and Soul King fragments.. That opened a new world to me (like what was taken from Rangiku by Aizen was a nail of the Soul King). Is this all true? I'm waiting for the official release of the novel, at least in english (since i'm italian)

Ichigo is not a Mongrel or Mutt as Yhwach claimed. The being who was given the tittle of the Soul King originally came from outside the Chaotic World which was the fused form of all the realms combining live and death. The original world. The five nobles gave him the tittle of Soul King when they sealed him and stole his power. Yhwach was never aware of his father's true story before he came to the Chaotic World. Nobody knows except Kubo. Therefore, Yhwach, Ichigo, Hikone and the original Soul King maybe their own race with an unique name that maybe revealed later on in another arc. The races in Bleach, Fullbring, and Quincy came from the Soul King himself and not the other way around. Shinigami is a job tittle not a race. Souls are that race. Hollows existed in the original world and the Soul King was not part Hollow, but part Fullbringer meaning he had Hollow Reiatsu and was indeed at least part Hollow himself as well.

Part of me agrees in that it would've highlighted that aside from Ichigo and his friends there is no true good and the nominal 'good guys'(and I use that term VERY loosely)the Shinigami are capable of dark and twisted depravity. Given they've committed several genocides that saw Quincy non combatants brutally dealt with it's not a stretch.

There's no doubt in my mind that Soul Society would've/will drop the manipulation and turn on Ichigo due to his power, Quincy heritage and willingness to break the rules to do what's right. If you think about it, he's living with the blades of Gotei 13 at his back. Imagine what would happen if found out the truth about the Spirit King and what is done to those who know too much?

Wrong. Ichigo isn't the best possible SK candidate because of his unique hybrid nature. He's the most stable and most powerful of the hybrids, but that isn't the reason why he alone can replace the soul king completely without having to absorb his remains or anything. Ichigo innately has the power of the soul king, and that is not just The Almighty, but likely more as well.
