Thank you for explaining the Ichiran ordering process, including circling your choices on the order form. Now it makes sense to me. Ideally, go to both restaurants and decide which version(s) of ramen I like best.

I went to Japan for four weeks last year (2023) and tried both. Ippudo was very good, but I really loved Ichiran. Had Ichiran on four occasions, so once every week. Tokyo, Nagoya or Sendai didn't matter. It was fantastic every time. Next time I will try other kinds of ramen too, especially soy based ramen entices med.

I love ramen, and I really enjoyed Ippudo. I found it very tasty, and I like the fact that you are not sitting in a closed off booth like at Ichiran. I dont speak Japanese, but I still enjoyed the interaction / social contact, and I would miss that at Ichiran. I havent been to Ichiran, because personally I dont like their concept.

I see, it's great to have such things like you suggested but Ichiran want us to concentrate on ramen only. So they think other things are obstructions to enjoy ramen... It's kinda complex topic😅

Sadly we don’t have ichiran in the UK, but i did go to one when I was in Tokyo. The egg wasn’t as good as the one shown in this video though. I really liked Ichiran, but there are better ones in Japan in Tokyo station and also another Michelin starred one I went to and equivalent price. Ichiran is the equivalent of the mcdonald’s of Ramen in Japan - they are all over the place and some are open 24/7. Really good still. We have ippudo here in UK in London only. But it’s really expensive - minimum £13 for a bowl and that doesn’t include an egg or additional Nori and chashu. Only go there for a treat.

Japan is a really big country of ramen so we can have variety kind of ramen. and we try to have branches outside of Japan so I hope you have other wonderful ramen shops in the UK and I hope you come back and have fantastic ramen in Japan again!!

From what I've seen Ichiran and Ippudo are more expensive than other local restaurants you can find by waking around which sell ramen for about 800 yen. Would you recommend local restaurants better?

These days, ramen is getting expensive so I think Ichiran is still expensive compare to others, but Ippudo is not that expensive. other ramen restaurants sell ramen around 1000 yen I guess🙂

IMHO Ichiran is overrated. Ippudo provides more options and has a complex Multi layered taste to their broth. Ippudo is definitely better

Add me to the overrated ichiran people. Its the same as buta ramen in Ramen Nagi, i like ippudos creamy broth more i can finish it easier than ichirans ramen which i find too thick(jist like nagi)

​@@foodinjapan2256 I think it's ok. It was nice and creamy, slightly sweet with a small matcha taste. I wasn't a big fan of the dessert, because I love matcha and there was barely any matcha flavor in it for a dessert that price. I could get a matcha cream puff nearby instead for only $4 to $5.

I definitely prefer Ippudo to Ichiran. Ippudo spicy ramen is out of the world. However, not every Ippudo store carries spicy ramen. The service of Ippudo is also not consistent. Some stores have amazing service, some is bad like the one in Lumin Est in Shinjuku.

Yeah, you're right! But that is the Hakata style ramen!! because it used be eaten after drinking so they would not need so much noodles!

Not a fan of Ichiran. Their broth is basically just one note - very monotonous. Ippudo's broth is more complex.

I know what you are talking about!! Ichiran is tasty but Ippudo's Shiromaru has subtle different flavors!!
