Went to a beautiful area with numerous aspen groves in full color today. After capturing many typical images, I worked on the ICM technique and as you described...lots of pictures and adjustments to find that right ‘formula’ of settings and movement. While I wasn’t in a rut per se, adding a new technique to the creative arsenal was a lot of fun. Thanks for the insight into a simple, but highly variable technique that really puts you in the creative drivers seat.

Aspens are my favorite.. either the fall Yellow or turn them black and white to take advantage of those amazing trunks... with a sprinkle of evergreen / pine it makes for great contrast.

Adam gets jiggy with it! I love the painterly look you got with the ICM images, the aspen forest really seemed to work well for this due to the contrast. Cheers!

I'm with you Adam! Aspen forest can be a challenge on your best days. When I'm having one-of-those-days, I look beyond the landscape canvas and have fun experimenting, finding new ways of what my camera can do with everything! And now with 4K video, it allows a entirely new aspect to options at your fingertips to explore. Never a dull day Bro!! Cheers

Well you've gone and done it again, turned a sows ear into a silk purse!! I have been working with ICM since watching Andy Gray who does wonders in the field and with post processing using this technique. I recently tried ICM on a covered bridge to avoid the cliche of covered bridge only to discover that it just looks like it was taken from a speeding car (ugh) :)

Lovely ICM, Adam. I really like the first ICM you did of the Aspen trees. It looks like a water color painting. Would look lovely in a frame. As far as favorites from this video, it's the ICM Apsen photo I just described as well as the ICM photo where there are diagonal lines (though I wish the yellow had popped more in that one); and then the clear shot photo of the white Aspen trunks and the yellow foliage in the background that shows up at around 12:33. :) I do like your initial shot as well - the one with the little evergreen with the leaves stuck in it. Great as always. Looking forward to more fall photos from you.

Very cool! Those ICM photos, especially the first several you showed, were quite wonderful. The aspens with their light bark backed by the golden leaves - wow! Very nice, indeed. By the way, when traveling in grizzly country in my home state of Alaska, I always make loud noises, yelling out "Hey bear!" every 100 yards or so because as you correctly observed, the last thing you want to do is surprise a grizzly.

I know that you are aware of the rut when iy happens Adam, but you seem to be able to get back on the road pretty quickly. These are wonderful images and although I love the artistic challenge of the ICM studies I have to say that those last two shots really blew me away. Aspens are one of the things that I miss from my youth in Arizona. We don't have them here and for the most part, the birches here rarely grow straight. They have the same look to their bark but present a completely different sort of challenge.

ADAM GIBBS: With ICM, you take a bunch of shots and hope one turns out. [GIBBS raises camera to face and casually takes a single shot. View cuts away from GIBBS in the field to full screen view of his shot. It is better than any ICM shot the viewer has ever taken.] ADAM GIBBS: (casually) Yeah. I'm pretty happy with that one... LOL. Hello Adam, great to see you on your own again. I do not know why, but as yet I have not tried (ICM) May I ask your advice, Simon? I see that you are using a Shimoda 60 liter backpack. I would wish to use your link. What is the Shimoda 60 like for taking on as hand luggage on an airplane? And would the 40 liters be way too small for us? Furthermore what advice would you give for processing your (ICM) image in Lightroom?
@QuietLightPhoto5 жыл бұрын
The 60L does fit as hand luggage, you just have to make sure that there are no items in the very front pocket such as jackets. I much prefer the larger bags as I carry not only camera gear but also a drone, clothing and food so it fills up fast. Not sure about the 40L. If you just carried say a camera and 3 lenses then I would imagine it would be big enough. The ICM images in the video I did very little in Lightroom. Just some brightening and contrast adjustment, that's about it. Cheers!
