Most of my family are religious and I always felt different. I always felt it was forced upon me too. Fast forward to my life changing moment, I was going through a hard time and was driving home from work at this time. I stopped my car, crying and I prayed. I prayed for my life to change and to show me my path. Allah answered me... I didn't know at this time. But I know now. I will never lose my roots.I am a Lakota. But Islam is my religion. I’m Navajo/Mexican and I thought I was the only one who converted to Islam. This warms my heart knowing I’m not the only one. My friends always ask “Why Islam? Why not practice your own traditions and language?” The answer is simple… My grandma was sent to a catholic boarding school as a child and my Grandpa was adopted by Mormons as a child. We lost the traditions and language and I envy those who managed to keep it. Islam is the closest thing to our traditions. Praise be to Allah.

My father was of Palestinian (Semitic) heritage and he told me that when he was a young man in school, he read about the Native Americans and what they suffered and he felt a kinship to them. When his family was displaced, the Israelis demolished not only his home but also the olive trees on the farm he grew up on to cut off the resources and livelihood of his village. Rather than be put in a refugee camp, he decided to travel abroad. He had a choice between England and America (because he spoke fluent English). He reluctantly came to the states because he had cousins here. He felt guilty but at the same time, he devoted his life to activism on behalf of Native Americans. I remember going to demonstrations and protests with him as a child. We also frequented Pow Wows to support them. He made many Native American friends who in turn attended Palestinian demonstrations with us. A Native man once gave him a silver and gold ring with a beautiful eagle on it as a sign of friendship. My father said to me "always respect these people, they are just like us." To this day, I honor them and my father by ALWAYS supporting them and I am going to start a petition soon (inshAllah) to abolish thanksgiving as a national holiday because as my father once told me "if we celebrate the genocide of the Native Americans, why should we expect anyone to sympathize with the plight of the Palestinians?"

Palestinians are just Arabs who migrated from the Arabian peninsula who try to displace the Jewish people who have lived there over 5000 years. They only became "a people" in 1967. So tell me, which Arabic version of the quran do you use and why that one? Or do you not even know that there are some 40 different versions of the Arabic quran we know of? Of course all these qurans were written by unknown authors. And how do you deal with all the mistakes, discrepancies, inconsistencies and contradictions in that quran as well as the approval of evil such as raping women who have been captures in battle (surah 33:50) which is adultery and wife beating (surah 4:34) as well as child marriage (surah 65:4) which means that Mohammed and his allah approved of raping little prepubescent girls. And we see that Mohammed led by example when he married a 6 year old child and then raped that child when it was just 9 years old. Clearly Mohammed disqualified himself as a prophet of GOD by the evil he perpetrated. And remember all if islam is only based what Mohammed maybe recited and how he lived.

Having read some books written by Native Americans about their history, their culture, etc, I've always believed that Native Americans's faith the way it was practiced and lived in the old days is the Islamic way of life. They must have had their own prophets that Allah sent to them. I am now reading a book co-authored by John Lame Deer and I didn't have to read far before I can see so many things he says that struck me as the same things (beliefs, values, way of life, etc) that is encouraged and taught in the Quran. WaalaikumSalam. I have not come across any books that talks specifically about Native Americans and Islam. But if you read books written by Native Americans (particularly those written by the older generations who grew up in the Native American way of life (before, during or shortly after the advent of the Mayflower) you will be able to see 'Islamic' values in their beliefs and way of life.

Our brother was so nervous speaking to a big crowd for the first time, and he did great. His story was important and uplifting. However, I believe there really is a connection between Native American people and Islam, although I'm sure it's never going to find its way onto the school curriculum. I learned a little about it from an American visitor who came to Mauritania to study Islam. He was a linguistics professor, fluent in Arabic, and he spoke to me about all the original names of places and tribes across America, and how close many of them are to Arabic. It was one of the most amazing conversations I've ever had. The first example he gave was "Honolulu" - a place famous for pearls, and he told me, the name is so close to the way we'd say "pearls are here" or "here is pearl" in Arabic, something like "houna" (here's) "lulu" (pearls). And there were many more examples. So this idea took root in my mind, that maybe all the Native American tribes are descended from monotheistic Arabic people - og Muslims! - who were shown a way to reach that distant land after the time of İbrahim AS or Musa AS, and Allah knows best.

They became apostates (Christians) by the Spanish conquistadors. Native American tribes have known monotheism. And know God. If asked who is your Lord??... There is a book called "The Gospel of the Red Man" by Ernest Thompson Seton. It's about the customs and religious beliefs of the Native Americans. The first time I read it I was really surprised by some very similar principles and beliefs they share with Muslims. I recommend this book to everyone. When I was attending Sir Sandford Fleming college, I used to have conversations with a Cree elder there. She one time told me about a legend in the cree wampum (history belts). She told me there was a legend about a man who would come from the east and set the native people free and return their honour and land to them. Thank you for this, but while it was lovely to sort of meet a Native American revert and brother, the title of the video is a bit misleading because the brother didn't talk much about Native Americans' Muslim roots; in fact, he himself said that there isn't much he can say about that, and he talked about his own journey of embracing Islam, so this is what the video title should be about, something along the lines of, "A Native American's Journey to Islam". And hopefully he could have more time in another conference or so where he can share more details about his journey, as 10 minutes aren't nearly enough for that.

as a Muslim from Iraq Baghdad the Native American people for me are exactly as the Palestinians for me ,,, when ever I read or watch something about the Native Americans if they are Muslims or not my eyes starts dropping tears because of the pain that I feel when I imagine the horrible events they lived and they still facing by the hands of the evil europeans. Islam was always meant for the native people, even though they werent muslim before. The morals etiquettes etc are all in line with Islam. Notice how the oppressors always came with the opposite morals. We Albanians for example havent always been muslim, but our ancestors had similar morals that were in line with Islam, they used the star and moon as their symbol of the nation, and they were also one of the lost tribes of Jacob

Some are born in circles in which Islam is not practiced and only very rarely come into contact with Islam, some unfortunately not at all. In Islam we therefore speak of revertites and not convertites. My experience with the majority of the Albanians has been a good one. However, I noticed that nation and national pride play a big role for the Albanians. Many say "religion doesn't matter to me, the eagle is important". You now claim with great self-confidence that you are a people from the "lost tribe of Jacob". Most of the Albanians I know also claim they are Dardanes or Illyrians, without any realistic evidence. Symbolic in Islam is a topic that would go beyond the scope here. Selam

@@boxfox007 Bro we are Illyrians and Dardanians on the premises of language (Illyrian words on inscriptions are similar to Albanian like Prenta-Brënda, Fis-Fis, Bur, Burrë, Barda- Bardhë, etc), dna (over 80% of Gheg Albanians are J2b2 EV13 and R1b - What Illyrians were) and culture (Xhubleta, Valle, Fustanella, Plis, Opinga, etc). And the fact that there is no recorded documentation of any Albanian migration to the Balkans with the Albanian language being the only (apart from greek, another native) language isolate in the balkans is enough to suggest my point. All I experienced from Anglo Christians was terrorism, raping, burning, and looting our homeland, and making us homeless
