I've had one of these since I got licensed back in 1998. Great radio, I wish Icom still made something similar. I don't need dual band receive like most of the new rigs. I just got a new 2730a, but love my old 207, it's a keeper!

I also have an IC-207h. Got it from my old boss. Brand new in box - $125!!! Right now, it's in the car but I plan on moving it to the shack. I also use a Diamnond X-50; in the attic. Not quite as flexiable as my old Yaesu FT-8000 (true dual receive); but too good of a bargin to pass up. BTW - no intermod issue with my unit.

On the FM bands (2M/70CM) the 'norm' for casual conversing is to not use phonetics. I agree with you in principal though. During NET check ins it is usually required. On the HF bands the use of phonetics is more prevalent. It is a must simply to be understood a lot of the time.

It is a great little radio! I am currently using a Yaesu FT-8800. The dual receive is nice!

I was thinking about getting one of these off eBay. What antenna do you have that hooked up to? Can I run this radio with decent reception and transmission with some sort of smaller indoors antenna or something? I don't have the living situation for a big outdoor antenna right now.

@Sunny441 It does NOT have dual receive. Thanks for watching!

@EnduranceT I use a Diamond X50 currently at 15'. Going to be raising it up to about 35' (at base) here soon. You can always try a roll up jpole type antenna. I used on of those for awhile. I had the roll up jpole on my apartment balcony and wasn't very happy with the performance. I found simply moving it 4' over made a TON of difference.

I am planning on getting my ham license. I have listened to some hams on my scanner. One thing that REALLY bugs me is when people don't use the NATO alphabet when giving out their call sign. It makes it harder to understand people's call sign. Using the NATO alphabet makes it much easier to understand. I have the NATO alphabet memorized, it's not that difficult. Using the NATO alphabet for your call sign should be a requirement.
