Thanks for this video. I picked up one of these IC-2100h radios used, in excellent condition for almost nothing. It started crackling really bad and I had a couple audio reports of noise and hum. Found your video and gave it a go. I used a UV light on the board and noticed that there was some sort of coating on the board and that much of it covered the copper rings as well. A little bit of DeoxIT D5 and a very light scraping of the copper rings and it cleaned up nicely. I picked up a bunch of #4 star washers and reinstalled the screws and it's working perfectly again. The UV light idea was a complete accident. I was trying to show my wife what I was trying to fix and it was the nearest flashlight laying around. Happy accident. Thanks again.

Works. Had two IC2100h radios ALL had crackling. This procedure worked well. Thanks

Good analysis and fix. The two additional screws probably cut down on the microphonics as well, These are rugged, well made radios. Not flashy but a giid bargain that will serve one well over many years. Additional recommendation is to throttle back the high power output with the interior pot to about 80-90 percent of the max and save the finals.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I agree - this is a good rugged radio. My only complaint is that it seems more susceptible to intermod than my other Kenwood and Yaesu 2m mobiles.

Thanks for the video. I'm about to buy a used 2100h from my local candy store and wanted to look on YT for any issues. Hope I don't have this one, but I'll know how to fix it. I sure appreciate you sharing wisdom-

I have a loose knobs volume and squelch. Do you know where I can send my radio to be repaired. IC 2100 IS my radio. TIA de KN4CBS
@SevenFortyOne14 күн бұрын
I don't know of anyone who repairs radios affordably. You can try icon direct but be prepared to pay more than the radio is worth

My 2200h has considerable less signal and recieve range than my kenwood 281 and yeasu ft2980. Have you noticed this too?
@SevenFortyOne3 жыл бұрын
I never compared them. But...the icoms squelch also doubles ad an rf gain so the higher you set it the more the rf gain gets turned up. I really don't care for that feature

Whats the impedance on the internal speaker? As well as the output rated for? I recently acquired a used Icom IC-2100H to which the original owner had discarded the user manual.
@SevenFortyOne7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. But you may be able to get a manual from the icom website for this radio.

couldnt u have just roughed up the copper around the screw holes, and tinned them a bit to build them up?
@SevenFortyOne7 жыл бұрын
Yeah - you probably could do that. Although, I wouldn't rough up the copper. I'd use a little no-clean flux just to get the solder to wet and then you'd have to make sure you got a good even flow to make sure the screw head makes contact at more than one point. Good idea!
@steveh1307 жыл бұрын
a really small piece of scotch brite will brighten up the copper foil, but yea flux and enough heat will do the same. As u tighten up the screw, u squish the solder to a custom fit...and solder it really hard to oxidize, at least way harder than copper. Also thx for the 2100H bacic programming. I got a 2300H today and it helped alot. Im a brand new ham and just made my 1st contact 2nite. I held a novice class ticket back in 1985 but let it expire.
