Nice job on video. I’ve done SOTA activations that have taken (4-5) hours in order to get 4 QSOs required for activation. If you stay at it long enough you’ll get your 10! With CW/Morse you are much more likely to have a quick and successful QRP SOTA/POTA. That was what spurred me on to learn it. “73”

Very nice. I have activated that park once. Was pretty cold out and I was under the pavilion there. Used my 40m EFHW, working on a 80/40/20 Vertical for a big multi-park day sometime in the future where I plan to hit up K-7839 then K-0987 then K-4120 then finally K-7256. That trip is going to be a while from now tho, mostly because I have to build and test the vertical.

Thanks! That sounds like a good multi park day. I’m interested in the 80/40/20 vertical you are working on.

@@K9KMVTheUnluckyHam I am going with a 16 foot wire vertical that is about correct for 20m then I 3D printed a coil form/holder for the loading coil. The first section is enough to bring it to 40m then the second section has enough extra inductance to bring it up to 80m. I also added an extra section that is tapped at every turn so I can tune it some if my cheap Ebay tuner can't as I know it would be perfect.

@@K9KMVTheUnluckyHam For radials I plan on using 6 10 foot long ones. I 3D printer some small spools to store each radial on to help prevent tangles I have had in the past with trying out HF verticals.
@K9KMVTheUnluckyHam3 жыл бұрын
Sounds great. As for radials, having some kind of winder is a must. Any wire in fact. I used to find half my setup time was untangling wires until I added winders to my kit.
@K9KMVTheUnluckyHam3 жыл бұрын
If the radials are on the ground that sounds like it should work well. If they are elevated I think you will need to tune them for the band(s) you are working.

Love my IC-705. Typically use it with an EFHW 10/20/40 wire antenna.

Nice video. I have the larger WRC base and it's a lot more stable with my TIA and 213 inch whip on top of it. 73 de KN3A

Thanks Scott. I have some leg extensions for the tripod which I haven’t tried yet. I need a better way than what you see in my video, that’s for sure 👍

@@K9KMVTheUnluckyHam I also use tent pegs on the 3 legs of the tripod and that works great too. KN3A

Were you running 5 or 10 watts?

That day I was running 10 watts. I have a 12v 6Ah LifePo battery in the backpack.
