Today, I discuss the IC-705. This is Icoms current QRP radio. In this episode, I spend over 40 minutes showing you the layout and features of this radio. Honestly, I haven't even began to scratch the surface on what this radio is capable of.
(I didn't even mention this radio is an SDR)

Great overview HRD! Im still going back and forth with getting a 705 or an 891 as my second hf radio. My shack radio is the 7300.

I did that and regretted it. selling the 705 and getting an 891 again.

36:17 - you have to hit "Data" to get out of data mode, not SSB. It's the same with the 7300. Great video though, I've had my IC-705 for a couple months now and I still learned stuff!

The Xiegu XPA125B Amp works well with the IC-705. It isn't worth the price, though. The amp only works for HF, and it effectively gives you a 100w IC-705, limited to HF, for twice the price of the IC-7300.

I had a lot contacts with just 44,52,53 reports on 100W and even 500W output power. If the Band Conditiones are tough and mother nature is not willing to team play with the HAM Radio Operator then 200ft. tower with a Monoband Beam and 1Mio. KW's won't change a damn thing about it. Uncle Guenter just said that & got down...bump bump, 73's ...

That's true. Conditions are important. This morning with 100 Watts, I'm not being heard on any SDRs, for example... Surely 5 watts won't be any better. But hey, if it was a guaranteed contact every time, it wouldn't be as addicting. Have a good one!

If the argument for not wanting a tuner is that for QRP you would only use an efficient resonate antenna then the same argument can be made for only using the uber efficient CW mode.
