Chuck, how do you make that little yellow 10M slider thingy to add or take away continuity?
@HAMRADIODUDE7 сағат бұрын
@derwerd one side of the cover has a piece of conductive tape on it. When slid over the other one and secured in the case, the gap gets bridged. Additionally, it could be used for fine tuning . Have a great one
@hamradiotube8 сағат бұрын
That’s pretty slick how you made that link. Are there still openings in the HRD School of Design?
@HAMRADIODUDE8 сағат бұрын
If you think about the link a little more, it could be longer and it has a secondary use as a fine tuning adjustment (More or less faraday cloth until it hits the other side) Kind of like a telescopic antenna. As far as enrollment goes, would you like to be an instructor? You get a name tag and a phone extension

A standard canvas grommet might be a good option to connect to the fairaday cloth. 73

There's a box? :) Dude, another GREAT video and your summary was exactly what I was thinking. I built my Dude Spike back after your 1st video about it but very differently. The videos like this stimulate the brain. Don't build it like you see it, but use the ideas in the vid to create one's own FrankenTenna (or whatever). Thanks my friend and keep 'em coming!

A couple of years ago I purchased 3 UV5R Baofeng radios. while I was in China. Total cost including shipping to my door was $45.00. All 3 radios tested good and are still working today. Upon my return to China a couple of weeks ago I bought a Baofeng UV-K61 which came with a desk charger which works well and a USB charging cable. It's a lot more radio than the UV5R. It covers 3 ham bands....2 meter, 1.25 meter (220 MHz) and 70 CM. It also receives on the aircraft band which is AM along with the NOAA weather channels. Cost of the new radio was about $17.00 delivered. I did have one problem....no transmit audio....which was fixed by futzing around with different menu items. I've been a ham for 6 decades....and am continually amazed at the technology in these radios for the price. Twenty years ago it would have been impossible. Are the Japanese radios better? Probably....but are they 10X better which is the difference in price? Not in my opinion. 73

great ideas man, thank you for sharing them with us. that idea for the slidy jumper thing is so simple but blew my mind.

Another option is a paperclip, but that doesn't hold in as well. Enjoy!
@robcarnaroli26912 сағат бұрын
I have the same spike setup but I used shorter bolts and put the extra on the other side. Two benefits are easier to attach the coax and I used some wingnuts on the excess threads for counterpoise wires when needed.

Dude, I just want you to know that I enjoy every video of yours I have watched. I love your amateur radio ideas, but mostly I love your humble nature and your “balls” to try new and different things. I look up to you and there’s not too many channel owners I can say that to. Keep up the good work and have fun. You’re appreciated….

Hello Maybe a stupid idea or question from a newbie, but would it make not sense, if something would not be 100% water safe, could it be made kind of water proof by putting the hole inner parts and outside connector ports in dielectric silicone grease, to make it relatively water proof in a kind of DIY way, becourse dielectric silicone grease have been used for this reason in other ways. 🤔 So if it would than fall in water it could maybe still work and wouldn't be to much damaged? Also a maybe dumb question, could the screw for the side cover not be replaced by a thumb screw, that would make it much easyer without any tool to open, beside your fingers if the person would still have them. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language.
@HAMRADIODUDE8 сағат бұрын
Sup dude! I am unsure if it would work or not. Only one way to find out, where can I get some of this grease?
@WaschyNumber15 сағат бұрын
@HAMRADIODUDE dielectric silicone grease is easy to buy on amazon or ebay or in local hardware shop maybe. 🤔 And you can get it of relatively easy with ipa alcohol ( 99% ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, or rubbing alcohol but that I wouldn't use on electronic becourse its only around 75% alcohol and the rest is water) not that stuff for drinking that they call IPA. 🤣 I think the only parts I would en put on silicone grease would be the speaker membrane, or some sort of waterproof fabric in front of the inner casing like this stuff they use for houses, that letting very fine vapor true but not big water drops. 🤔 I don't take any responsibility for any damage by the way, I'm guessing only. 🤔

You should sell framed copies of a hand drawn certificate of completion of study from the HRD School of Art. At least draw it and make a PDF available.

Just getting into the addiction. Really interested in the full wave delta loop as well as the multi balun snap on concept. This has a lot of possibilities of flexablity, looking forward to seeing how you develop this concept. This might pair well with the crappie pole vertical if you are someplace that is sans trees.

Absolutely. A good antenna will make the biggest difference. For example, I recently worked Austria on 5 watts. It may be difficult to make it through pileups, but calling CQ tends to do well. Good luck.

I use an EFHW with a 64:1 at 66ft started at 68ft feed point around 5 foot above ground and the other end going up to a 40 foot mast I tuned into it to be resonant at the bottom of 40m very pleased with it around or below 1.174 on 40m 1.5:1 on 20 15 10 and below 2.0:1 17 12 oddly enough I noticed it was around 3:1 on 160M though I don't think my coax will be long enough to avoid getting a blast of common mode into the shack the 991a tuned it but couple of my LED room lights started turn on an off :)
