Thank you David for finally setting me on the write path with these settings. I had a precious set up of Soundmodem trying to run and ruin the show. Cheers!

David, I am a new 705 owner and ran across your video today. I had been trying most of the day working on the Winlink packet. I was able to get VARA going but was beating head against wall on Winlink. I undated the newest Soundmodem, and PT.dll and the 705 is still not on it list. Anyway, your video got me there. The magic trick is still the CI-V address. Now I have to remember to change it back when I am working PSK or FT8. Thanks, Steve VA3FLF

Thank you for posting this! I tried so many other things before finally being able to connect to winlink after watching your video.

David thanks for this video. Other than changing the CI-V address to 94h, are there any other settings needed on the 705? My radio is keying up, but not passing what it hears back to the computer. Also, I noticed that your video had audio. When I'm plugged into the radio there's no external audio. Thanks and 73!

From the default config of the radio - nothing that I can think of open up the squelch and then double check your Windows auto mapping - and you can also inside Windows listen to the audio out from the 705 - you will know right away if that is not working.

@@davidcappello thanks. I found your video on KZbin, but with further searching I see that you have a blog post about it with some additional insight about the radio settings that I didn't see in the video (like FM-D instead of FM mode). I'll try what you suggest in the blog - davidcappello.com/2020/10/02/vhf-winlink-with-ic-705-and-soundmodem-tnc/. Thanks again! 73 Joe

@@davidcappello Okay the new cable does help. TX doesn't hang anymore. The problem is the Winlink connection drops before a packet response is received - although I can see (and hear) the incoming response in the Soundmodem monitor window. Is there a setting in Winlink to keep the connection open longer to listen for the response? As best I can tell, all settings same as yours. I have a screen shot - may have to send that to you via socialmedia. Thanks.

Thanks for the kind words. Grab the latest (most new) releases you can find on UZ7HO site - is what I have been using with no issues. (I just looked at the date of the files)

Hi Dave, I set up and configured Winlink and Soundmodem according to your instructions and the radio tries to connect to the gateway but never seems to manage it. Is there anything else you might suggest? Thanks!

Charles - try a gateway that is closer perhaps ? Some of the gateways I try behave the same way.

I am having two problems. I installed the IC-705 software and I see two ports in Device Manager, just different ports. 1) When I start Winlink it doesn't see the IC-705 ports. The 705 is plugged into the laptop with a USB-B cable. 2) I can't enable the Advanced PTT settings button. Any hints?

If you installed the usb driver for the 705 and plug it in - you will see to com ports in device manager - one is for CAT control the the other is for audio in/out. Which ports doesn't winlink see ? Also be sure to set your audio for Windows prior to winlink - anytime you plug in an audio device to windows it wants to make that the default - which you don't want in this case so you have to go back in and reset sound options for Windows for your PC speaker and Mic.
