I just did this modification. It took me about 15 minutes. I used a hand held magnifying glass and a soldering pencil with the tip ground to a nice point. The rig works perfectly on all bands including 2 meters and also works on my MARS frequencies. No problems at all.

If you read the instructions for the mod, it says there is. In my experience I've never had to, I usually just turn on the radio and it takes right off.. Thanks for the great feedback...:-)

Very helpful. It may lead me to be able to expand the 10 meter band on my IC706MKII so that I can get the full 70 cm band using a transverter that I have for 432mhz using 28-30mhz. Thanks 73 Jim WA2RJB

Is this the same for the 746 non-pro? I read somewhere that the only mod I can do for the american non-pro is the diode removal near the Option UT-102 section of the board. That is supposed to open up the TX range. I'm I correct? Or is this the mod I should be looking at doing? Thanks

HI Youssef, I don't have access to this radio anymore since it had belonged to a friend of mine and he has sold it since the video. I'm not sure I understand your question though?

Interesting... have you checked mods.dk to see if anyone has a fix listed for "no power" on that radio?

maybe a daft question but does this mars mod open up 11mtrs for RX/TX too or just 60mtrs. ?

It opens it up, but I don't recommend TX there since it's not legal in most countries.. :-)

@@JLPicard440 Strangely enough, I just watched a video of a person in the UK mod an IC-705 for the express purpose of talking on CB channels then show having a conversation on CB channels. I'm guessing that is illegal in the UK. I'm always amazed at people who make and post videos of themselves breaking the law.

Hello, you desoldered the diode in W1604 and W1603, say maybe you know what the diode W1600 is for, I have the impression that it blocks TX completely, I have TX from the listener, is the W1600 diode blocked.

I highly doubt it. Power would drop off significantly if it did work. Most radios I've done wouldn't TX below 1.5 mhz.
