Just got an old R75, and this was very helpful. Thanks!

Good demo of exalted sideband. I do find it wanting for listening to music, as was demonstrated inadvertently right at the very end of your video here! SSB just doesn’t have the bandwidth to convey musical tones well, but for voice; it’s fine. I learned the technique you use years ago from either an article in MT or PopComm, I can’t recall which. I love my R-75, btw! Again, nice demo!

Great tutorial, learned several new things about operating my R75.

This is very interesting. Would you be able to do a videos showing the antenna that you use and how you ground the radio?

No new videos planned at this time about my antenna but maybe another one about using the R-75. I use 2 antennas. Both are end fed. The main antenna is over my roof. The second antenna is about 100 ft. of wire running along the top of my wooden yard fence. This antenna is attached to my MFJ-1025 which requires 2 antennas to work. I use the 1025 less than 10% of the time. I find having the DSP and the ATT on together using ECSS usually does the job. Also...the radio is not grounded at this time.

Good work with a conventional superhet radio. This is do much easier on SDRs. You get flat passbands which are the same for USB and LSB, plus skirts you can click to drag and match the spectrum you want to hear.

Which SDR would you suggest? Something higher end!?

Oh wow that MFJ-1025 you have on top looks really cool. I would love to have one of those. Been having a hard time finding one of those Realist DSP-40 units that the Official SWL guy has on his r8500.

Nice video, but you largely ignored the value of the Twin PBT. For me this is the R75's most valuable asset, for removing interference on weak signals. Yes, it's true that one can use the Twin PBT as a quasi-Tone control, however it' best at getting to the 'meat' of a voice transmission -- while shaving away unwanted background noise at the same time. In USB mode adjust the Twin PBT's toward the right, vice versa for LSB mode. It makes a major difference on those really weak signals. A similar trick involves using RTTY mode for all voice transmissions, AM or SSB. This requires off-tuning and experimentation with the Twin PBT's, This trick alone has made many inaudible weak signals very audible.

I have been using that technique with my vintage tube radio for years. It was just the way to tune the HF radios, but interesting to know it is named as "ECSS". I thought it could something revolutionary and totally new. It isn't :D

You are welcome. I use mine every single day (or really... night) The other day I found that it has at least 4 tuning speeds. I wonder what else I don't know about the radio?

i use a jps nir-12, works very well for noise reduction, much better than the ut-106

What filters do you use? Any external equipment besides the MFJ on top?
