ICON A5 Demo Flight | Up A Boat Ramp & River Flying

This video demonstrates about 40% of what I like to do in a demo flight with somebody who is thinking about buying the ICON A5.

Typically when I do a demo flight in the ICON A5, I like to demonstrate examples of people how people actually use the airplane. I like to cover things like beaching the airplane, going up a boat ramp in the A5, doing a river run, and on rare occasions, stopping in on a restaurant.

To help you get ideas, would be to pull up to beach party and take friends on tour flights. You could make videos about flying in and going fishing early morning! And even more videos on just exactly how you go out, play around, having fun is a seriously great way to market this craft! Both of my parents are private pilots, I’m in the process of getting my license and I am totally sold on the icon a5 because I live on a lake in touristy lake town!

Hi, I've seen ur vids before, but you always wanna show how Atomic, the plane looks. Never speed up the vid, cause, like me, people wanna see the full affect of the vid. Talking to ATC, getting the Adis, etc. Lastly, you wanna have a Drone flying above the plane, so people can see to departure. All the best Shaun of NYC 🗽🗽 I will watch this again.

Gary, How did you get Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III to introduce you? That's cool. I've only crashed my A5 a few times in Flight Simulator. Probably shouldn't fly it in Glacier NP, huh?

I really love the idea of this aircraft but what I've heard alot is the cost of maintenance on this plane especially the TBO of the airframe, was told 10 years or something similar and is extremely expensive if that's in your ownership time frame. Even seen some videos on that making this aircraft at the very high side in ownership. If that's incorrect you should do a video on ownership cost from new to used to close to TBO"s.

No, it's going to need a lot more than 1 tank to make it to North Carolina. Like I said, it's not that kind of airplane.

Hey Gary, what is the opening you have on the panel top near the canopy line. Mine does not have that slit. Is it for wiring?

It’s an air vent for defrosting the canopy. That plane was the only one I had ever seen one in so I think it was a one off. I can’t say weather or not it was effective but I can imagine since my new one doesn’t have it either.

Hi Gary, I was wondering if have any pilots that are paraplegics that have had the A5 adaptive with some sort of hand controls? I will be retiring to the Philippines in a few months and was considering the A5 as a way to island-hop?

I know that we don’t have the internal resources to make it happen, but there may be an engineering firm we can collaborate with to do something like this. We’ll have to look into it, but you’re not the first to ask.

10 months right now, I have one production reservation remaining for November and two left in December. It’s a 10% deposit to reserve one and the remaining 90% is due once the build is complete and the airworthiness certificate is issued.

I think you would get more of an interesting video here if you started out with a cold start and let the video run until you're back on the ground with minimal editing/cutting out and less of the theatrical speeding up the video and music. The gain on the headsets was a little loud and blown out and made the dialog harder to hear. Sorry, just my opinion here.. Consider more camera angles (wide dash view so we can see and observe all the settings/instruments but also see forward out the window) Love what you're doing, hope to see more!

No charter available for light sport aircraft, Jack Browns in Winter Haven Florida does rides though

Of course anything metal corrodes but we used so much carbon fiber that it makes it easy to keep up with relative to other seaplanes.

Gary, a positive suggestion I hope. Your audio is extremely hot, tends to be over modulated, thus making it very hard to understand and difficult to listen to. Get with your favorite avionics shop and ask them to help you get your audio to a professional level

Hi, Wanna see the cockpit, explain the gages and how to manipulate the yoke, take off from outside the plane. Wanna see the plane landing @ an airport. Price: Oh, if y'all could speak off mike. Deploy the parachute, if possible. Easy to like the plane ☄☄
