You Can't Kill Us may just their best album yet. Not as much because of the music, more because of the lyrics. "What's it gonna take to break us? What's it gonna take to make us wake up?" "When you take the sick away, who am I supposed to be?" "I ain't under your thumb, I ain't stuck in your shadow, I'm on top of the world up here fighting my battles." "We talk a big game like we wanna get well, in our prison made of pain, only fooling ourselves." "The cracks in my skin only let in the light." I chose my favorite quotes from each song in this album so far.
@vanessahudson68288 жыл бұрын

One of my favorite lyrics ever from them is in this song. "Can we let the pain and the happy mix? Can the two coexist? The beauty next to the mess? Because I swear I have them both already beating in my chest. If that makes me crazy, the numbers don't lie. But I don't call that crazy, I call it being alive." It highlights a truth about life I think we as a society try to deny too much: that it's okay to be sad sometimes. No one can be happy all the time. We all have our breaking points, we all need to cry sometimes.

Frankly, I hope they come back with that passion they made you feel in Scripted. Because yeah, lyrics have always been Ariel's strength, but I couldn't find that raw passion and energy from Scripted in the self-titled album, only in a select few songs like Rock n Roll Thugs or the chorus of Sorry About your parents. This song is truly passionate and the lyrics are indeed awesome as always, I just hope they keep it going like that.

I have ptsd, mdd, ocd, anxiety and bpd type 2, grew up with countless "challenges" & suffered more as a young adult Icon For Hire's music beautifully encompasses what it truly feels like when you're locked in one of those loops, knowing it's a loop but unable to do anything more about it. When simply existing and breathing consume your processes and become such a struggle. Lots of love to all and extra love to those, like us, who suffer any form of mental illness we are individuals fighting individual battles but as this band demonstrates so well, we are not alone.

In my family, talking about mental illness or sexualities is kind of tabu. I've lived with depression and a social anxiety disorder, never knowing that I was ill and that I could get help indeed. So I never quite understood this whole topic, until I found out about my problems recently, now I finally find the true meaning of this song and all of the previous ones, and let me tell you, they help, they make a remarkable change in the way I see my mental health. I don't feel alone, or left behind, or uninformed about it. So, thanks Icon For Hire, you are indeed making a difference, you are amazing musicians. Thank you. And to all of you, talk with your family, tell them about how you feel, if you think you have depression or anxiety or OCD, you can get your life back. Don't keep it inside you, it'll be worse.

.....As a mother and someone who has a husband that loves me to pieces,I feel this down to my soul. Struggling to be happy when you find happiness is hard when you have depression. Faking a smile on bad days,finding the courage to get up and play with your son,or be with the one you love (to feel worthy of the one you love), they are all hard. Bad memories always have the habit of circling you,and even when you achieve happiness,they don't go away. You just learn to live with them. I can say I am happier than I've ever been in my life but fight everyday to be who I'm supposed to,and on my bad days I listen to you guys. You guys get me though~ Thank you.

This is one of my favorites. It's hard to describe to someone being sad when logically they think there shouldn't be one. Yea you could have a good job, make good money, basically nothing to complain about right? But, the hurt is still there for some reason. It's a duality within you that contradicts itself.
@Zombiebutterflies17 жыл бұрын
The monster in my mind tells me that I can never trust anyone, even the one friend I have. It lies to me telling me there is no way they even like me. It steals my words when I try to speak. It tries to talk me into never leaving my home. Sometimes it brings a friend over, I don't like that friend. They tell me the world would be better off without me. This band reminds me though that I can't let those monsters win.

I am loving this music, I only just discovered it tonight. I am 36 and have struggled with mental illness for most of my life. A few years ago I experienced a solid remission of most of my depression symptoms and since then I've been doing really well, but being armed with the kind of self-talk you need to arm and strengthen yourself, some songs to fall back on and to see words of encouragement from others who have experienced the same struggle, and even maybe lend some encouragement to people who are still in the pit - that's wonderful. It's awesome that that can come from a song
