Hey Justin. Thanks for checking out the new ICON storage system. Just so everyone knows, the system is fully configurable. You can easily change out any 2 shallow drawers and replace them with 1 deeper drawer. Configure it your way!

@@OUSWKR basically the same reason why I bought a u.s. general box myself if I wanted to upgrade I would look at Matco or or Mac which is a little bit cheaper than a Snap-On box which I have nothing against the Snap-on bucket I wish I could afford one but if I'm going to work out the bigger box I would just get the Mac or the Matco

Looks great at first didnt notice how shallow those drawers are but DAMN they are very shallow! Not sure what i could fit in there as a diesel tech. Word is 2.5k for the box, i feel if its more than 1.5 its too much. Beautiful clean used tool truck boxes come in at around 3k id rather do that.

They sure are trying to copy Snap On with that. I think the depth of the box front to back and also how deep the drawers are is important. Those little skinny drawers aren’t good in my opinion everything that could fit would have to lay down flat..... guess you could store your Snap On receipts in there ? Nice looking box but super wide and deep drawers is where it’s at to me.

1.5" deep drawer not bad. I like the skinny drawers. Screwdrivers, pliers wrenches. Blow cases are waste of time. Rumored that drawers might be able to change out drawer configuration. At min.. you could buy a double drawer and replace two of the skinny. Just checked my snappy drawers.. they are only slightly deeper. I use the HF wrench organizer.. they all fit in skinny drawers. Never liked pliers racks. I use dividers to keep things in categories.

Ok, so it is a nice box. Not going to lie, I see things I like. But there may be one giant draw back. That Snappy or Cornwell, even Mac or Matco are all pushing 30" depth. While the Icon and General boxes are both only 24" deep. Now having a balance on drawer height on top of usable drawer space is also a concern. Most hand tools other than your sockets will fit in 1 3/4" drawers. Hammer drawer up to 2 1/2". This is where the homeowners box is separated from the professional box. I find the charging drawer completely useless being on top of the tool organization drawer. Reason being how much room that charging station takes from that box. I would rather see 2 2 1/2" drawers there and set my chargers on top of the box where they are easy to access. The writing drawer, under the second full length makes absolutely no sense. How tall is that drawer? If you are 5 foot 2 it may be a comfortable height. May have been better served on the top drawer of the side cabinet. The side locker, it looks pretty good, very solid looking. But again, 24" deep vs. The industry standard 30" deep. I'm expecting this entire setup you demo'd to be somewhere between 5 and 6 thousand dollars. If you ask me the General2 Series is a much better set up to price point. This box tries to hard to beat SnapOn, but in the end the depth will be its biggest issue.

With all due respect, I disagree with you. I don't like putting my pliers on its Edge, I think it's much easier to lay them down and have better visuals to reach right for the tool I'm looking for. You are giving up the height but you're gaining double the floor space. At the end of the day I think it's what you want as a setup like you said and for me I like shallow drawers.

Waaaay too many shallow drawers. I see a socket drawer, a wrench dawer, but no plier rack will fit any of those drawers. Atleast not the size drawer the average tech needs for pliers. I see a huge blunder here, and unless they sell drawers so we can switch to our liking its not gonna stand the test of time. Of course theyll sell alot in the beginning bc ppl are lame and just want the hot new thing but I think its weaknesses will outshine.

You put tall stuff in deep drawer and short stuff in thin drawer. That being said I do prefer the thin drawer to be more like 2" in depth. I also think the death and height is a little off 46+ on height and 30-31 death is key they also need to offer a 85" ish length box to complete. It's all about the number square inches vs cubic inches. The thinner the drawers the more square inches the deeper the drawers the more cubic inches. The number of drawers is a lost leader in most cases. I think the best set up is to have all full length drawer if you had an 84" box all drawer would be 82" ish.

I understand why some of the features are a downside for yourself, but Harbor Freight's entire lineup of tools is completely geared towards being snap on at an actual affordable price. Your complaints were very subjective to your own preferences, but snap on being the biggest quality tool company in the world is slowly getting beat and losing sales to Harbor Freight. That's incredible and they are basically showing that anyone can make the same product of quality and sell it for a REASONABLE price.

For what you're paying, this is a very good tool box. I'm a mechanic by trade, I have a 20-year-old Matco box. I paid $4,200 back in Y2K. It now retails for $8,000. I've moved that box all over the country, and it still works. But it's only a 57-inch box. You can get a 72" ICON box with the hutch with a light that turns on automatically, the little side box, the locker, and the over-hutch drawers for about $9,500. A comparable Matco box would put you up around $30,000. So you can basically buy 3 ICON boxes for the same price of a Matco. Matco makes a better box, for sure, but the ICON is still good, probably the "Best for your money".

#ICON #HarborFreight. Since the toolboxes are now out and availability , I was able to get a hands-on look at them and noticed a few issues I’d like to see changed. (1) I agree about deeper drawers. (2) I’m already heavily invested in RIDGID 18V power tools and brought mine in store with me to test fit some , but mostly the batteries and battery chargers. RIDGID chargers sit upright and not lay down like others. So I would like to see the thin drawer above the charging drawer deleted and extend the charging drawer height / merge the two to fill that area so my batteries and chargers will fit. (3) I do NOT like that the backs of the end lockers are vented. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and parking lots are dirt, not paved, so vehicles and shops can get dusty, not to mention pollen from all the pine trees in the gulf south. So to keep toolbox internals/tools clean I’d like to see a color matched sheet metal panel with thin magnetic adhesive tape strips so that sheet metal panels can be magnetically attached to help seal end lockers like the rest of available ICON toolbox line. Then if I do choose to put a small refrigerator in there for lunch or drinks, then I have option to remove it for ventilation. (4) I’d like to get 3ea 28” end lockers (left end, right end and one middle) to connect between a 73” toolbox w/ hutch and 56” top and bottom toolbox, which would be 213” total length. The problem is that no combination of the 56” and 73” top storage cabinets would match 213” length; either 11” or 28” too short, or 6” too long. So maybe need to make a 28” top storage to fill in / fix this issue. (5) Black or Silver/Chrome trim should be an option on ALL colors offered! (6) Need more color options, preferably Satin / Matte Black with Black trim. Carbon fiber would be a nice and welcomed option also. (I will be applying faux carbon fiber adhesive film on drawer pulls). And Bright Yellow and Bright Orange like the US GENERAL toolbox colors. (7) Need to make / offer a end-locker specific LED light kit (like hutch) for shelf areas, but with on / off switch, not automatic. If not, I’ll fabricate my own.

If they dont sell enough, id think that Harbor Freight will either make a series 2 icon box or discontinue Icon and make a hutch and power drawer for the us general 72. If you priced out a snap on classic series, if you have a student discount, you could get pretty close to the price of one of these boxes.

Maybe the Icon is designed for hipster mechanics to match their skinny jeans? The Icon web site used to say the box was priced at $2499. The one thing that blows my mind is how they completely copied the Snap-On power tool organizer. I’ll have to measure my krl1001 to see how deep the Snappy skinny drawers are. I actually prefer a skinny drawers since I don’t store many blow molded cases in my main box except for torque wrenches. Side note, If you ever have a box with 30” deep drawers you won’t go back.

I’d understand if all those drawers were skinny but you’re talking about 2 out of over 9,000 drawers. You really need to fit the big shit in EVERY drawer? You can’t have a couple shallow drawers ? Make it your playboy drawers. Idk I hear you it just seems like you almost took the skinniest drawers and acted as if they all were that way, you’d think 90% of them were given the amount of time that single point got on the video. A fair point to make would be suggesting they offer the ability to replace two shallow drawers with a single. That would be the ultimate

I called the Harbor Freight where that picture was taken. They said that it was a mistake and they don't have official pricing yet, price tags are no longer on the box. My guess is that someone input a price when they received it since it wasn't officially in the system yet, then another employee printed and posted price tags. My HF manager thinks they will be closer to the original $2500 for the main box vs the $4k on "misposted" price tag. We'll find out soon.

So I went to harbor freight and checked it out and I have to say this. The appearance looks good. But as a technician that owns the master series 1032 with hutch and a locker. The build quality of the icon doesn't compare. My top drawer is fully loaded with heavy sockets. Mind you I work on diesels so I have big sockets. I can take my 200 lb ass and put all my weight on it while it's fully extended and it barely flexes. Now I opened the demo box at harbor freight ,extended the big drawer and put all my weight on it. The drawer sagged noticable. So I must say if you are a technician. Consider buying a used box from a truck. They will probably cost less and last just as long as the icon. Oh and my Snap on box is 30 deep not 24 like the icon. Some of the features on the icon remind me of the 5 series matco. But as he said the drawer height does not suit a professional technician

I was talking to the manager at my locality in Tennessee. He was talking about this box when I was asking about a series in the future. He did mention it's in direct competition with snap on he dropped a number of $6000 full dress comparing to the $7-8000 box. This is just shop talk and tool gossip. Also they are developing an app for coupons and what not

Snapon only has a lifetime “field” repair warranty. That means if you have issues they’re not going to pick it up and bring you a new one. It means they’ll repair it in your shop as best as it can be done so warranty is the same on ICON and Snapon. ICON units will have 0% financing soon. Snapon is the only tool company that screws their customers with compound interest. Sure, Snapon will come off of their retail price because they know that they are going to break it off in you on interest. If you think you got a deal on a Snapon box just sit down and figure up how deep they stuck it in you with interest charges. At least Matco only charges simple interest on their boxes.

Looking at the the picture of the socket drawer it looks like they are copying Snap On's packaging and trays. Especially the wrench trays they have pictured. Looks just like the Snap On tools trays. It looks like the box itself is a knockoff of the Snap On Epic. Especially the stainless steel top.

It's a nice looking box but I wouldn't buy one. Just my opinion, if I'm going in that deep into debt to buy a tool box it definitely isn't going to be from harbor freight. Harbor freight has been successful because they sell cheap tools with decent enough quality for what you pay for. They are trying to get into territory they don't need to be in with these boxes. The 72" us general box is a way better investment in my opinion. Less than half the price and has more than enough quality.

1 or 2 good size skinny drawers under the main socket drawer is nice if you have a lot of wrenches (and I think most guys do). But I agree that having 3 of them is more hindrance than help. It also punches the pliers drawer much farther down, which I don't prefer. I'd rather have my pliers directly below my wrenches.

I'd be willing to bet you could weld a 56" piece of angle iron along the top edge and bolt that hutch right to it the same for anything attached to the side I think you should get a 56" US GENERAL and find out although for me I don't mind the thin drawers although if icon is 4 times the price I'm definitely going to get a US GENERAL 56" and weld angle iron to get that hutch

I think the designers who constructs these boxes are going so hard to try to compete with Tool Truck Brands but though not paying attention to the ppl who use them and what they use them for and how they use them...How do you create a Tool box or chest hutch ect. That's supposed to be constructed for a Mechanic but designed in away as if it is targeted for another profession...like you were speaking about drawer specs and how deep width and length they are Mechanics dont have Dental tools

You specify your preferred drawer configuration upon ordering. They're designed so that a double or triple deep drawer fits into the same space as 2 or 3 of the shallow drawers. It can be ordered without even a single shallow drawer

No need to apologize. I’ve been watching these reviews on this box to see if it’s worth the money for a home box and haven’t seen anything yet in drawer supports. I know it’ll never replace my snap on box at work but I’m really not trying to buy a snap on box for home and like the looks of these icons but if it’s gonna be over 2k for a bottom and there’s no drawer supports then quite frankly they can go pound sand 🤣

My question is since when is it that only one person is allowed to review a product? I like to hear reviews from several sources to weed out the biased reviews. If a snap on shill reviews a harbor freight tool he's going to give a bad review. Same goes for any other brand shill out there. If you have a lot of reviews to go off of, it is a lot easier to weed out the bias. With that being said, I do think the main box is overpriced by about 20%

I totally disagree about he find shallow drawers a negative piont, as an auto tech MUST of our tools are not that big, please pay attention to the first drawer he shoes more than half of the depth is un used, that happens to more of half of my drawers. The deep ones are used only for the tools on molded cases or they become a yunk drawer.

Great film and advice, Dow. For aesthetics sake how would the different trims on the ICON and the US General work together. I understand what you mean about the over abundance of skinny drawers, your taking the time to do your measurements help out with that. I wonder what the drawers on the 36” box would be like. I’m just a part time mechanic and DIYer, the US General still seems to be the best value for the money. I wonder if Snap-on will have any heartburn over the “Master Series” name.

I commented on the Bears review that I wanted to see how close the stainless top was to fitting my US General gen 1 56 inch box. If it’s close enough I would buy that and the hutch and possibly the top cabinet. Great video and you make some great points to ponder. I think on my Snap On work station at work (dealer provided) the short drawers are about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch taller than the icon but I could be wrong.

I'm a little torn. I just got a kmp1163 a few weeks ago. The big selling points were the charging power drawer and power tool drawer with the hanging rack, which is awesome. Now, this is coming with a lot of the same features -good and bad. I hate the skinny drawers. My snappy box has them, too. They're a waste. I'd have to say that if the Icon box is more than half the price of my snappy box, it will be a pass. I also got my snappy at half price, so really saying more than a quarter of the price. Much more than 3000 is a hard pass from me. I would like to put my hands on one, though, just to feel the slides and guage of the steel.
