The Der used to be so good before 2003. Full of big, fat, wild mirror's with massive mouths and shoulders, all different scale patterns, linear, leathers, fully's, some with one huge scale on the flak...... anyway,, without sounding TOO much of a grumpy old man, I just think the stocking of all commons and cats was not the best move.... even if they have grown huge .... anyway big respect to anyone who takes on the challenge. The sheer size of the place makes it special, as do the sunsets and the nature. Always fished it in September as the level is dropping and the mud is horrendous but the fishing is amazing. Great film.

Top tip for les grande lacs: there's loads of submerged tree stumps and other woodwork. Rather than fish with braided leaders or leadcore, fish with 20m of 80lb mono as a leader. Braid cuts into wood, mono glides around it. That can be the difference between landing one of those Carp, or losing it due to hook pulls as a braided leader snatches into the wood. The Orient is Mount Everest, Chanty is K2.
