Fractal vices are super-cool tools to have but smooth jaws have their limitations, as opposed to the diagonally-knurled, serrated jaws that most bench vices come with and those fractal jaws will only grip an object from moving up and down, as well as any smooth metal surface can and when you multiply the verticle facets to better grip the object horizontally, the jaws just become 'rails' in a vertical sense, due to less gripping surface. I would suggest putting multiple metal blocks if nessasary underneath the object to support downward pressure.

It dawned on me a few days ago that if places like this that make props that show up in so many places, were to make the dimensions available to the general public, prop replicators would have a lot more references to work with. That is, instead of having to figure out how big a gun or book or swoard is based on a guesstimate of the actor's height, you could figure it out based on knowing the exact size of, for example, the newspaper the actor set it down on or the can of Smeat it's sitting next to.
@86fifty Жыл бұрын
Oh this is so smart! Sell the printings, cuz that's what they DO there! And with Michael and his team to identify and tell us the history of every item, we get to benefit, and he gets to geek out, and we LEARN stuff, and history gets preserved! This is like the Library of Alexandria, but as a printing shop that can easily make and disseminate copies of its treasure trove!

@XanBos Жыл бұрын
You would think that places like this, (and I’m sure there aren’t as many of these prop places exactly like this) could have already put props up for sale just to generate revenue. You know the demand is high for many movie props. Who wouldn’t want license plates, or newspapers? This is pretty cool for sure. I bet the blade runner ID badge won’t go for cheap if they are limited. It’s pretty sweet to see things that we really take for granted in the movie industry…that’s part of the movie magic. Love it!

What I"m really curious about is how much they sold this stuff originally to the movie/tv production? How much does a pack of Morley cigarettes go for to The X-Files? Are we getting them at a steep discount of only $25, or is that a price a TV production would pay? $25 seems cheap for a prop.

That's most likely, because 5th Element wasn't a hollywood production, but a european one. Luc Besson is french, and although it had to be filmed in London due to the lack of sufficient facilities, it has been produced by Gaumont. Which is a french company and btw. the oldest existing production company for movies in the world.
