Perfect, especially when combined with the music. Many years ago I began to paint Icons on MDF board for friends and I thought I was doing well until an old chap told me off. Apparently I had been correcting the Originals and making the faces more realistic. As soon as he told me I checked and he was right, in doing what I had, I had made them ugly and taken something away. Mine were just modern looking pictures, not Icons. Thank you Kyrie Kafkaris, I hope the Saints watch over you.

Lo que me parece importantísimo es que se vea también como se trabajan los colores en la paleta. Me ha llamado mucho la atención que en ningún momento aparezca la paleta y los colores.

Thank you for your kind words! I use Winsor and Newton Series 7 and Roubleff brushes. I use egg tempera (1:1 egg yolk:white wine with a drop of lavender essence). I work in tetrachrome so the pigments I use are iron oxide black, titanium white, ercolano red (& mars red) and yellow ochre.

Really really THANKS :-) I was painting an icon with acrylic on mediapan wood First I primed with UV connection then I was applied a homemade gesso with glue for wood and white acrylic policolor wor outdoor use.. after few layers gesso and left time of couple of hours for drying between layers .. for finish I used Acrylic Varnish (Glossy) P.S. 1. The second commandment (Ex. 20:4ff) is the only commandment that explicitly describes what is prohibited: making an image and bowing to it. Doing that very thing but claiming the images are not really idols but "icons" and the bowing isn't really worship but "veneration" is not convincing. 2. Canon 36 of the Council of Elvira states, “Pictures are not to be placed in churches, so that they do not become objects of worship and adoration.” 3. Origin (184-254) responded to Celsus by admitting that Christians used no images; he mocked the notion that images were helpful in worship, and, citing the Second Commandment wrote, “It is in consideration of these and many other such commands, that they [Christians] not only avoid temples, altars, and images, but are ready to suffer death when it is necessary, rather than debase by any such impiety the conception which they have of the Most High God.” (Origin, Contra Celsus, Book VII, Chapter 64.) 4. Eusebius (c. AD 263 - 339) wrote that even the incarnate Christ cannot appear in an image, for "the flesh which He put on for our sake … was mingled with the glory of His divinity so that the mortal part was swallowed up by Life. . . . This was the splendor that Christ revealed in the transfiguration and which cannot be captured in human art. To depict purely the human form of Christ before its transformation, on the other hand, is to break the commandment of God and to fall into pagan error." 5. Epiphanius (inter 310-320 - 403): "I went in to pray, and found there a curtain hanging on the doors of the said church, dyed and embroidered. It bore an image either of Christ or of one of the saints; I do not rightly remember whose the image was. Seeing this, and being loath that an image of a man should be hung up in Christ's church contrary to the teaching of the Scriptures, I tore it asunder and advised the custodians of the place to use it as a winding sheet for some poor person." He goes on to tell John that such images are “contrary to our religion” and to instruct the presbyter of the church that such images are “an occasion of offense.” (Epiphanius, Letter 51, chapter 9). 6. Hence we see that the "Orthodox" church radically broke away from the tradition of the early church.

Covenant Caswell we use the Orthodox icons not to worship that piece of wood, or the colours, not the image... Icons are not idols... When we see an icon, we can easily connect to praying to that saint, or whoever it is, that is Holy. And by looking at the icon, we pray to he who is in Heaven, wheater it's God to help is, or Saint, to pray the Lord for us people... Here's a simple example: When we miss someone, we see him/her threw a photo, or picture... and we are kissing it - not the photo, but he/her who is on the picture, so when we kiss or worship an icon, we actually worship and kiss: God, Saints, Holy Virgin Mary, some happenings or icons of some happenings like: Easter, Christmas, Metamorphosis (Transfiguration), crussifixion,... and simply like that.... Icons for us are Heavenly reality between Heaven and Earth (God and human)... Icons are precious ! that's why Orthodox prayers don't pray statues, but icons... But also the face of the saint or God, has to be good, because it can't be whatever it is... And if it's icon, the face has to be perfect and the name written... May our Lord God bless us my brother/sister... Christ in our hearts ! That's why icons are not idols, and again that rule from Exodus still exists for us... besides miracles happen on icons, like crying, myrr streaming, blood streaming, and simply. God with us. amen!
