I just met my goal of 60 books for the year. It’s the first year I was able to accomplish it. Last year I just fell short. Ghosts has been on my TBR all year. Your review has pushed it up my list again. I just finished Stanley Tucci’s Taste memoir and enjoyed it. There’s no shame in comfort reads or reading children or middle grade literature. There are actually adult book clubs just for reading those kinds of books. A story is a story and kids books can be so good. My favorite comfort books are the Anne of Green Gables series. Love her so much.

My favorite book from this year was A Promise Land by Barack Obama but I LOVED Before I Go to Sleep too (I love a good thriller but it’s usually not my go to either lol) Great book choices 👏🏽

Omg I had NO idea high fidelity was a book!!!! I watched the show on Hulu and fell completely in love with the show. It didn’t get renewed for another season but I’ve rewatched 3 times now.

If you haven’t watched the movie High Fidelity yet, I highly recommend it. I didn’t know it was a book either. It’s my next read.

Dune was my favorite read of the year too! If you enjoy fantasy with interesting world building/magic system + political intrigue, I highly recommend The Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson.

Loved The Princess Diaries as a young teenager!!! Remember visiting the USA for the first time whilst that series was coming out and realising they all had different covers and in the case of my favourite series by her (The Missing), different names too! My mind was blown!!!

I couldnt stop reading Conversation with Friends and Normal People and watching those along side the tv version as well had me in all my feels!! Nothing like Normal People has made me hurt yet feel comfort in that way

I reread a bunch of Sarah Dessen romance books over the pandemic to help my anxiety. They were my favorite books growing up. And this just reminded me to pick one back up because I have been feeling so anxious ❤️❤️ my favorite book I read this year was 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Glad you liked Dune. Each time I read it I get something new. The books I'm recommending from this year in the scifi/fantasy genre are Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Teenage necromancers in space. They are very different from anything else out there. Rather detailed and confusing and I like that. Normally I can read books out of order with no problem, but in this case I would say you have to read Gideon first because the second book will make no sense at all otherwise. There's two more in the pipeline and I can't wait until they arrive. The other book I'm recomending is The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. It's soft scifi, to be read with a cosy blanket and a nice cup of tea, possibly some oatmeal raisin biscuits. They also drink a lot of tea in the story.

For a spookier read, The Haunting Of Alaizabel Cray is so beautifully written, it's an older classic! Set in the victorian era

Two books I would suggest: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune (Gay romance, in a fantasy world) he is a inspector who monitors what goes on in childrens homes for children who are special in some way, he goes to this main home in the story and meets the anti christ Lucy, along with some other adorable gifted and different children. It’s very very unique and it’s such a nice story. Will he close down this special home with these adorable children and the adorable care taker! And TJ Klune’s other book Under The Whispering Door. A rather mean and uptight manager one day has a heart attack, he dies and is guided to a cafe where he meets Hugo who is the guide to help him pass onto the afterlife, he quickly realises what a idiot he’s been, and enjoys his last days before passing through. I did wonder if this would trigger me, dad died of a heart attack last year, but it’s a lovely story and makes you wonder how you could live differently. Even Hugo’s ghost dog is a great character. I cried at the end. It’s beautiful.
