@@travisbicklepopsicle Science is not about making mistakes, that's nonsense. Science is about discovering truth, and the scientific method actually attempts to annihilate any chance of mistake. So in a sense, science is the exact opposite of what you claim it is. Telling people that their organs are useless before actually confirming such information is dogmatic, biased, and unscientific.

What drives me nuts is when people like my lost brother starts going off about vestigial organs disproving Intelligent Design by a loving and incredibly intelligent and efficient bioengineer, and proving evolution hands down. He inevitably trots out his favorite "What about the vestigial gills?" I always laugh and say what is it, are we monkeys or fish or are we hybrid monkey-fish. He shakes his head and rolls his eyes and tells me I'm a fool. I inevitably remind him that which he knows from his youth, "There is no greater fool than the one who says God does not exist!" Then I proceed to ask him, hmm if God is an intelligent and effective designer (and he is) don't you think he would provide a way for fetuses to breathe in water? He shakes his head and rolls his eyes and says what does that have to do with Intelligent Design. I ask him if he's ever heard of the Placenta and amniotic fluid? Yeah, so what. So how is a baby going to breathe in fluid with lungs? He inevitably throws an evolutionary hissy fit and stomps outside. As he goes outside I tell him to enjoy the oxygen in the lungs which God gave him... I was hoping Dr. G would have touched on the supposed vestigial gill slits for more ammunition

The term "vestigial organ" is a misnomer. Every organ labeled as vestigial can simply be placed on the long list of body parts humans didn't create and therefore don't fully understand.

The tonsils are no way useless. They help fight off infections as real science has shown. See on Google. When the polio epidemic was in America last century, the people most likely to get polio were those who had had their “useless, vestigial” tonsils removed.
