Great review and rundown. Started a game about two months ago and love the simplicity and pacing possible withthis system.

You should DEFINITELY play ICRPG! It simplifies everything that's wrong with DnD tbh. More focus on story, fun, creativity, and WAY less on fussing over rules! I can't recommend ICRPG enough!

I've used "timer dice" for quite some time now, but my "dice" are coins. Heads I keep, tails I remove; then I just remove a coin per round (sometimes I remove more if something specific happens). Once all are gone, something happens! I do this for condition effects too.
@HouseDM2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. So you have stacks of coins as timer dice? How many coins do you typically start with?
@diceythings2 жыл бұрын
This started as a way to simplify the countdown (not having to pick up the die, find the right number, then set it down the right way... and hope no one accidently moved the "timer"). I would often have a roll of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters handy, but sometimes I would just ask my players to use the change in their pocket. No one carries change anymore... Also there are tons of neat custom coins available now. The coins are easier to handle, are harder to accidently change, and allow you to choose any number you want (not just d6, d8, etc.). I also just say "next round" and my players give me the appropriate amount of coins. I would often place the coins on a card, face up or face down (the coins are not stacked, but laid out for counting at a glance). Condition effects would be face up (mostly), a new thing would be face down and I would allow my players to reveal by turning the card over (occasionally the card will be blank, either nothing happened or something did happened, but the players don't know what...). It's a fun mechanic that can add tension.

Another interesting consequence of using coins was the idea off, essentially, gambling with your character. I use wounds, not hit points. The average lv 1 having 5-9 wounds represented by quarters (usually). The counters on the character sheet were the stakes that the DM could win if he killed the character, or he would collect wounds during the game and the player would replace as he healed during the game. The idea of the players fighting each other in gladiatorial puts also came up. Players would create characters specifically for that. We never actually did this, but it was a fun idea to explore from time to time.

Nice video Jake. I'll try to incorporate more timers than just the death one. 😁

This sounds like the system I've been looking for. I want simplicity, so I can focus on role-playing and story aspects of the game.

Hell yeah! ICRPG is great for that but still provides a ton of solid complexity. Glad you discovered it!

I'd love to get a copy of that collector's edition. I have been waiting for It to become available again for months. I'm tempted to pick up the standard edition, but I know that as soon as I do, the collector's edition will definitely be reprinted.

@@HouseDM it's weird because he says he hasn't heard back from Modiphius and they say they haven't heard from him. So I am working under the assumption that it isn't happening anytime soon.

6:07 I'm not sure where you got the 4 Effort Points from, you only get six points total and Effort rolls are just one of the options for those six.
@HouseDM Жыл бұрын
That’s not quite what the rules say in Page 26. It says you can assign 4 points to effort and on page 25 it says to assign 6 points to your stats.

Recommend anyone looking at this 10 in the future when I'm writing this get the hardcover. I just got the softcover of the master edition and … the book's a little thick for a softcover book of this size. Totally do yourself the favor of getting hardcover. You can't get the really sexy collector's cover anymore, but it'll flop a lot less.

Since I've made a character in ICRPG (in mere minutes) I cannot go back to time consuming character creation like 5e. In 5e, an hour is standard, it feels like work, and it's not fun. Just get me a bloody pregen.
