Well guys. Here it is. This video has waited almost seven years to be posted. Some of you may have seen the Welding Rig tour video from a while ago. I hope you guys enjoy it and are inspired to build one of your own. I wish there was a way to make another one like this for one of the more popular vehicle/truck shows Like SEMA or for The Work Truck Show, etc. This was quite the challenge and it is something I had always wanted to build. I didn't want any big company manufactured bed. Too lame and cookie cutter. I wanted to build something of my own . As Frank Sinatra said it, " I did it My Way". As with any build, there are things I would change but not much. This fits my needs. If you are brave enough to build one, DO It! Only deep pockets will make me do it again. #kiddingNotKidding.

Very few have the ability to see something this complex in their mind and fabricate it to such a high quality. That build should be a lasting source of pride. Fun to see the memories with your young son and Mrs. Weld helping on the job!

The problem is that you made this so nice that if anyone else wanted you to build them the same, they could not afford the labour. Excellent work as always, and, not that you do good work only for yourself, your efforts are always top class.

Isaac, I have read a lot of the comments and no one has commented on what I think is the keystone move you made. Right at the outset you chopped of the rear springs and added air ride, your own design for sure. This is the one move that shown determination and understanding of what is required. The bed is awesome as we always expect from you LOL, and the fit and finish is very good. This was built to do many things including towing a gooseneck and other recreational trailers. This is exactly what I wish I could do here in western Canada. Anyway I wanted to say thanks for sharing and hope 2024 is good for you, cheers Paul.

What a huge amount of work.. but it turned out great! I bet you have just as much time planning and thinking about it beforehand, as you did the actual build. Now tell us about the 1956 (?) Chevy pickup in the driveway @00:39 !! 😜😄😎

I truly enjoyed that truck. Unfortunately I traded it for my 54 Hudson. I needed room for the family. That truck was so reliable. It was almost my daily for when I needed to run errands. It still had the 235 with the 3spd column shift. Such a great little pickup.

Best part was the paper doll mock-up on the photo. Full blown CAD (Cardboard Aided Design!) Brillant. As others have said, fabulous design, engineering and construction. I smiled when I saw the rear light recesses and thought - that guy has worked on classic cars and understands metal fabrication design. You have a great "eye" for composition and form. Well done.

Kiddo had a huge growth spurt. :) Awesome coachwork. Probably one of the best beds i've seen hands down. Not just in welding, but also in the fact that you thought out every detail, and it shows. 90% of these beds are either built "like i saw that other guy do it" or template cut and never to anyone's specifications. You're in the 10% who leads the trend.

If you had the ability to go back in time and make changes to the bed what would those changes be? Did you use regular open ended pop rivets to attach the stainless steel or the sealed closed end rivets. With regular pop rivets I always worry about water going through the center of the rivet and entering the tubing causing tubing to rust from the inside out. A few years ago I did a bunch of trailer modifications for a friend who was starting a food trailer business. I had to build a couple 4" deep recessed pockets for digital touch screen signage monitors with doors to cover them when not in use. I built the doors using square tubing and I had stainless skins bent up so the 3 sides had u profile and the skins slid down over the door frames from the top and the skins were secured with a couple of pop rivets from the inside.

Even down to the little cubby boxes on the sides that come with small child as optional extra . Hi Isaac, great build. They always take a long time when you are doing it for yourself. Back when I was an Apprentice Carpenter in the mid 80s, I built a lock up box to fit in the back of my Corona station wagon. It was made from plywood and 2 x 1 DAR Vic Ash. I had a power saw and hand tools, so it took a while to build. I made it semi knock down, so I could remove it and store it if required. It was angled to match the angled back seat, and went from wheel arch to wheel arch. At the back I had a drop down tail gate to make it easier to get tool boxes in and out. Across the top was a multi fold concertina lid with a tail flap to meet the tailgate. It folded up just missing the interior lining and meant that I could get to all of my tools and boxes without pulling them out. It was also lockable. I used to cover it with a crappy grey movers blanket and it must have worked because when the car got broken into, the blanket was not disturbed. I hope that you and your family had a great Christmas and hopefully you all have a great New Year! 😊 Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
