why not form some 3/8 flat bar into a circle and weld it on the edge inside to strengthen the drums outer edge?

Hi Issac, very intriguing repair to extend the already long life of this machine. Do you know how many hours were on the machine? We'd be curious to hear how it works out for the owner. They should exercise caution though on rollover with the drums shortened as it could affect stability.

Those drums would be much stronger if they had a 1" wide lip on each side of the drum. It would make the ends much stronger and prevent the drum from getting out of round. If it was my machine, I would cut out 1" wide rings and weld them inside the drum. They could be welded flush to the edge of the drum or even set back slightly.
@ICWeld3 күн бұрын
Yeah, I think that would help a lot.

Nice job. What do think of maybe making a type of jig to hold the torch in place. What are your thoughts on that?

Another excellent repair. At first , I thought you'd weld or braze the drain fitting on the outside. Didn't think of pulling it through the fuel gage hole. The air compressor drain valve will certainly make the draining easier, but i'd be concerned that it sticks out too much. Not that you are likely to drive it on rocky roads. Given that it sticks out an inch or so, could the butterfly catch on something as you're driving and tear off causing a dangerous leak? Probably unlikely.

Since the rollers move under power, instead of using the wrap around, seems like you could just clamp the marker in place, and spin the roller to make your mark.

While I could maybe do the welding part, the vertical height would keep me from trying. If I could only see what I was working on, maybe, but otherwise all bets are off... Thumbs Up!
@wansolve2893 күн бұрын
I don’t know what that part is (or does) either but he did say “It’s Very Expensive”. Seems to me with your skills and talent you could easily replicate that entire assembly and have one to sell him (or anybody else!) the next time they break one. Just thinking out loud.

Today you had 455 comments. Read many of them but brazing was not suggested as an alternative. Do you think it could be used as an alternative process? When I view your videos I try to guess how you will solve the problem. Thought you'd have used a TIG. You are so versatile and pragmatic. The repair with MIG was exceptional. One day hope to watch you weld/braze with oxy acetylene.

I mainly used mig for the speed. It works well for the situation.
