Broken Skidsteer Axle Tube.

Hey guys, Here is a neat challenge. Maybe its something that you have had issues with. If so, This is what it takes to make the repairs. Not fun but necessary if you want to keep the machine. Fortunately for me, I didnt have to turn the wrenches on this project. My buddy had to deal with that. Either way, kick back relax and bust out your favorite snack or choice of refreshment. Sorry for no closeup arc shots but this was a tight area. Hard to access. Enjoy.

When I hear 'skidsteer' a little groan seeps out and I can't control it. That was impressive. I've been in some bad situations but you made that look easy. I could never do these videos because of all the foul language I would have used. I don't think I have been more impressed by any other welder.

Pretty common issue on abused skid loaders. Also those chains you can remove a link to tighten them up as they do stretch out over time. Very nice that they removed the engine first and cleaned it up they must like you 😂

Never seen anyone take a link out of a drive chain on bobcat. They are endless chains and I’d think you’d want all four the same length

@@robertquast9684if I’m not mistaken each side has its own drive motor and chain so it shouldn’t cause any issues removing a link off one side. You would be removing the slack in the system. Odds are if some side is that stretched or worn the other is also so you would be doing them both.

Yunno the coolest part about watching you is your confidence in what you know you can do. This bobcat was really broke bad once before, the weld on the axle proves it, and it wasn't fixed right then. You saw that and new what had to be done to make it right. Most "welders" wouldn't have touched this job for fear of just making it worse, you saw the fix and did it.

Patience like I've never seen. Whatever was charged for the repair wasn't enough and Isaac still earned every penny. I would be a constant muttering of swear words attempting this.

I can say with 100% certainty that temco hydraulics is a stand up company with fantastic customer service!! I had boughten a 50 ton hollow cylinder from them about three months before my shop burned down. I emailed them real quick to see how much a seal kit is for it. Before I could even order one they had sent out a complete rebuild kit for it for free!! It was in the far end of my shop that was the last thing to catch fire. So it just got hot enough to burn some of the paint off and wreck the seals. Getting that kit was one of the little things that meant O-so much to me at a really hard time in my life!! Thanks temco!!

I can really appreciate this one I’ve found myself in very similar spots and sometimes all you can do is bend rod after rod and weld a half inch at a time! Honest work clean money and a sore body keep up the good work

All good fun, one thing I like a lot about your video's is that they basically run in real time, you edit out the boring bits but once you start a job you get it done, more often than not, in one hit. Some makers could go a year between cuts and we would never know... You don't do anything like that which adds a lot more meaning to your content. Thankyou for sharing and doing things in the way you do.

You left out the part of using the needle gun to relieve the stress, but not too much needle gun to where it work hardens the area. But great repair as always.

I'm impressed with the accuracy of the blind welding it's all very much ball park area when watching the flash and then you pan out and hey presto spot on . Considering the amount of access available that was an amazing job . I'm sure most of us guys that are hobbyist would turn and walk away instead of even considering tackling that . Well done and thanks for sharing this one as it shows it's not all wide open workshops or huge free space around the job site

Extremely Impressive! Fantastic use of the come alongs, chains and jacks to bring things back in position! Isaac, you can add “contortionist” to your resume with all of that out of position welding. Bending those rods to get yourself in those tight spots and still have good penetration and a good looking bead👍. You made this repair look a lot easier than it actually was… you saved the customer 💰by keeping this machine productive, not having to purchase new equipment for quite awhile! Hey Isaac, that was a heck of a job. After 35 yrs in construction I can assure you the skid steer is the most abused machine out there. I think the tele- handler is a close second! I have some of those 1109 rods too !😊 I learn something every time! Thanks for taking the time to show us real world repairs.

Great job on the cleanup and disassembly, before you were brought in to weld. Wish the YT mechanics get the message, least worries of fire, and they can see ALL the damage, with least possible contamination of the mechanical works.👍👍 That's how I was first taught back in the 70's. The attitude, that has come across lately, is rush, rush, then the job ends up being crap, not always, but more than I'd like to see. Again.👍👍 Best wishes from Northern Canada.

Yep, that was no walk in the park, but as per usual you did you top drawer work! I've never seen welding braille before LOL that's a cool trick! I guess with the price of used equipment now and availability more guys are fixing old machines to keep them going than before. Sweet repair with challenging angles. Isaac can maintain an arc even with flex in his rod. I bet it will crack somewhere else before it cracks where Isaac welded.

In really tight and blind situations like this job, you weld by feel of the rod burning an sound of the rod burning. You learn after years of practice. I hope this helps. Have a nice day. By the way I am a retired pipe fitter welder.

I have nothing near the experience that you both have. That means watching these videos and reading the comments allows me to learn a lot. I assumed the rod had to be used the way it is out of the box. Obviously bending them up doesn't degrade their performance any... or does it? Also, I noticed the rod might contact on some other metal of the workpiece, maybe at mid-rod. Is there a risk that welding might spark up where you do not want because of this? If so, that would make for a wild game of "operation" as someone else commented.

37:53 broken bracket just below the flashlight beam; also broken where it meets the outside of the frame. Certainly the BEST WELDING (of many previous repairs) this machine has ever had! How you get smooth welds with the contortions and bent rods is beyond belief!

That looks like that machine might have been a "Sunbelt" rental at one time. They have kind of faded around here. That reminded me of some "chain-work" I did on a Woods 7500 backhoe for my B2710 Kubota a few years ago. Some folk talk about "out of position" welding but I'll bet they haven't seen Sir Isaac's "out of position welding"!!!!!!! LOL

Having never tore into a Bobcat skid steer I'm surprised at how lightly they're built. Even for a 175 it seems underbuilt. Surprising that they hold up to rental abuse.

This was a much more involved welding job than I thought at the first view. And that after the mechanic disassembled 80% of the skid steer. What a nightmare.

A broken rear axle on a skid steer happens, because the operator fell foward dropping the load slamming back down on the rear wheels. Very common. 👉👉👉👉We found just removing the whole top half and motor off the chassis makes it easier to realine the wheels better.
