Man that zoom out joke with flubs actually had me laughing hard. Good video man. I can really respect this game, and as I've been playing a lot of those old rpgs, especially bard's tale, I can say that for a phone game ported to the DS this seems pretty dang competent.

I actually love everything about this game thanks for introducing me to it, gonna try it out. I've been obsessed with dungeon crawlers ever since I was a kid and found one on my aunt's TV, back in the brief period where TVs used to have little games for some reason... that and the one episode of Powerpuff Girls where the mayor is playing a zelda and it looks more like a dungeon crawler than zelda. Something about these games really scratches a weird part of my brain, they look so mysterious and charming

You should do another forgotten game that no one talks about, it's similar to this game, however, much more ambitious. Fighting Fantasy: Warlock of Fire Top Mountain is a fully First person game more in line with Elder Scrolls on the DS. Best played on the actual DS rather than emulation because of the stylus controls. It's difficult at first, but once you level up and find out which areas to avoid on your quest until you become stronger, it really is fun and engaging for such a large scale game on the DS

Will always fondly remember this game forever because it made my childhood me way more terrified than anything. Still, had fun playing and replaying it to be 100% completed by the time I was 14. Thank you for documenting it's little lifespan, because I managed to play its second Iteration on a J2ME emulator a year after this video released, and it was fun despite the fact that it kept the same problems and functions of this game.

Orcs & Elves was my first DS game alongside Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and despite how dated it may be and how flawed it is, I still loved it to the point of multiple playthroughs. Yeah, the levels can blend in with each other, the game can be incredibly easy to cheese, etc. but the game was charming and enjoyable enough for me. Wish I could try out the sequel, honestly.

I used to play a lot of Java games back in the day, Wolf RPG, Doom 1/2 RPG, Galaxy on fire... This was a nice blast from the past for me. By the way, the best way to emulate Java phone games is to emulate a PSP, and install a PSP j2me emulator, within your PPSSPP emulator. It sounds wack, but it actually works. If that fails, i had good results with j2me loader on my android phone, and if all else fails, there is also a janky emulator called KEmulator, but the results vary a lot with that one

I for one am always talking about this game when it comes to forgotten/unappreciated DS gems. I freaking love Orcs and Elves and I'm not even into dungeon crawlers, but when I found out that my man Carmack (id Software) was behind it, I was intrigued, and I couldn't say no to an id Software game on Nintendo DS, though I couldn't bring myself to pay AU$69.95 for it. I eventually bought it as part of GAME's buy one get one free sale together with the (don't judge me) hilariously trashy Miami Nights: Singles In The City, as both were obscure/niche games that I wanted to buy but couldn't justify grabbing at full price. Anyway, I've finished this game at every difficulty level. Love, love, love it. And it's such a tragedy that it was never ported or remade for modern hardware and that we never got the sequel on DS. I would kill for a collection of all of these RPGs (DOOM, Wolfenstein, and especially Orcs and Elves) on modern hardware, especially on Switch. Just great fun and surprisingly atmospheric and immersive for the genre. While I've tried demos of some of the dungeon crawlers on Switch, none of them come close to this, and I would much rather just replay Orcs and Elves instead.
