This episode has less narrative than the previous ones, but there is a good message at the end of this video, so make sure to watch the whole thing. I don't just say that to accumulate watch hours, I mean it, I think you all will relate to it. If any of you are interested in 12er stickers sent to you, I will be selling them soon. Reach out to me via email, my address is on the about tab of my KZbin channel page and let me know that you want some. Thanks for watching and thanks to all those who subscribe, it means a lot and I love connecting with all of you. Stay wild!

Love it as always. Definitely concur with the message at the end about heeding the call of those summits. There's no other feeling quite like standing on top of one. Excited to see what you pull out this winter Dan.

Thanks brother man. I’m excited for this winter. Ski packing is the new adventure this winter, Woodstove tent, warm nights in the wild. But you have me thinking of snow caves too. If you are around we should shoot another episode of making snow caves.

I just climbed this one and glissaded down from the false summit. It has to have been one of my favorite 12ers so far!

Yes “get rad” you need to watch the movie GNAR, then you will get the saying “get rad.” “Getting rad” is another phrase for going hard at something. Doesn’t matter if you are already rad, you “get rad” when you ski hard. -Dan

I really appreciate that. That is a good question. I am going to try to finish those up either by the end of this year or in Jan. My work and life got super busy from June until now and I haven't had much time to work on these videos. So I am hoping very soon I will release them. Do you have a way to get notified when I release these videos? Like subscribed or follow the Lost River Range group on FB?

Great to see new edits this time of year! I'm planning a new edit from last year's footage just to satiate my itch until the first legit snowfall. I was up at Emerald Lake yesterday and there were SIX skiers hitting the snow field (which is terrible quality). People want the season to start.

It will come. I’m really looking forward to it. I want to get into ski packing with a light weight hot tent set up. Go deeper into the forest human powered and sleep warm with a wood stove tent. Join me for sure!

What is the road in from 93 to the trailhead like? We are looking to do three of the 12ers this summer (we've already done Borah, Donaldson and Hyndman) but coming from Boise we would rather do any that the trailhead is accessible by car rather than truck since gas prices are so high. Which trailheads do you think would be easiest to reach that way?
@DanNoakes
@DanNoakes 2 жыл бұрын
I think the road to the approach of Lost River Peak is doable by car yes.

Do the crampons work best on frozen snow or are they still useful later in the year when the snow is melting?
@DanNoakes
@DanNoakes 2 жыл бұрын
You use them whenever you need them. You definitely want them when the snow is frozen, I have also used them when it is more slushy.
@tallcip65
@tallcip65 2 жыл бұрын
@@DanNoakes Thanks. We are planning on doing LR on the 19th. It looks like a lot of the snow has melted off just since last week. We did Donaldson last May and there was still a lot of snow starting at the first basin. It was frozen in spots and deep slush in others but I did not have crampons. We made the summit that day but I think ill pick up a pair and use them if I feel they will help.

I definitely think you should have an ice axe for those traverses on steep slopes at the summit. That whipet ain't gonna do shit if you go into a full slide. I know it's a decent amount of weight but worth if for safety sake. No shaming just concerned.
@DanNoakes
@DanNoakes 4 жыл бұрын
I hear you, if it is super icy, I'll bring my ice ax. I like ice axes. The whippet is really convenient.
@BackcountryCamWA

Yea no worries if it was within your tolerance for safety that's the only thing that matters at the end of the day. I'm just coming at this from a season of all sorts of guide training. so my focus is on risk management. I KNOW how much easier poles are to use a majority of the time but the ice axe is an under utilized tool by a lot a BC skiers on steep slopes. Hope your stoked to tackle some lines soon! I'm headed up to Baker to check out some areas.

@@BackcountryCamWA I am really stoked. I am trying to control it. I don't want to go too hard out of the gate. Goal of mine is to avoid injuries in the early season, and make it a long season injury free. I am really hoping for some good snow. Where are you based out of? Are you moving to Baker for the entire season?

I’m just outside of Seattle on highway 2. I’ll be in that corridor and up in Washington Pass this season. Honestly I’m down to come out there since your season will probably start sooner than ours, and we can hit some mellow fun stuff.
@DanNoakes
@DanNoakes 4 жыл бұрын
@@BackcountryCamWA Yeah, come anytime. I am more towards West Central Idaho and we are pretty low elevation compared to the Wasatch or Tetons. Our season usually starts towards the end of December. In November I am usually just skinning up the resorts to get my legs in shape. Mid December things start to fill up, January they are usually filled up. I think your season might start sooner to be honest. If La Nina comes, you guys most likely will get plenty out there.
