Parrot Anafi - First Flight In a Long Time!

The Parrot Anafi is a full featured 4K drone that sadly is no longer in production. I had not flown mine in at least a year. It was time to take it out for a quick flight. Glad to see someone still showing love to the old Anafi in '23, definitely one of my favorite camera drones of all, it was definitely way ahead of its time. Its small but not too tiny, great stable image with video or stills, quick and nimble or slow and cinematic, waypoints that allow you to even land at remote locations and a lot of people may not realize but you can even do entry level 3d mapping with it. All but one of the videos on my channel containing drone footage was actually shot on the Anafi. Range was definitely the weak point though to be honest it was still capable of flying way beyond LOS in most areas I ve been. Now that I m watching this I may have to check Ebay for another, since my old one is at the bottom of a lake now...

I had 2 parrot anafi drones, one of them was the extended version. Sold both of them and immediately regret it! It's an outstanding Drone. Thank you for revisiting one of the best drones ever made

There ARE STILL Refurbs for sale. Extended kit (3 battery) going for $380-400. I bought a DJI AIR 2S Fly More refurbished (from DJI) last week for $425 off and you could not distinguish it from new (I have bought many new to compare. Even batteries seem brand new with full flight times, zero cycles etc. More than just reset to zero, these are essentially new. Amazing.

The way back machine is working again. I really enjoyed this drone five years ago, and it’s a shame about the signal. But it didn’t seem as bad back than because there was a lot of Wi-Fi drones around that weren’t that great either. But by today’s standards it doesn’t measure up. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Well, you know I have a soft spot for this drone. I have large hands and this is my favorite controller. The paddle for the camera is light-years better idea than any scroll wheel. I flew mine out where there were no wifi around and it did well. See my Brickyard video for that. The smart functions works really really well. Parrot should have released a new version of this unit with OA. I love the option of being able to just toss it up and it'll hang from a string! FreeFlight 6 is sooo adjustable... I did a clip on that too 😆. I'm gonna charge mine and fly it tomorrow 😆😆 Thanks for this Mr. Marcus.

Thanks for showing a flight with this drone. The first time I had heard of Parrot drones was, I think, when you were with the International Drone Seekers. Hi Marcus, I love my Anafi! the thing is a BEAST. Quiet too! The one negative is, as you pointed out, is the wifi connectivity issues. Really this one's Achilles heal. The other thing is that my batteries seem to take a long time to charge. Definitely looking forward to you taking it out to Snake River!!

I still have this fun toy drone, and yeah it’s a shame about the signal. The only way to make it go far is the leap of faith type of flying by using precision planning with the way points. When I say leap of faith it's because you won't see anything on your FPV screen until it arrives closer towards you at the end of the mission. So you have to be very careful when dropping your pins on the map for the way point. I still have a soft spot for it and can never get rid of mine even though the Wifi sadly makes this drone unusable in today's standards. Thank you for the nostalgic video. 👍

This drone format is the best! Perfect for all kind of filmmaking. Video Feed and Transmission no so great on the Anafi.. But, on the other hand, I even made a video talking about why DJI and Autel needs to copy this drone format.

I originally was looking at the Mavic Pro and the Anafi. I ended up getting the Mavic Pro. Then later added a Mavic Air 2. I always kind of wished I'd gotten an Anafi. About six months ago, I bought a refurbished Anafi on ebay for $275. I really like the Anafi. The wifi connection to the drone is it's one weak area. If I have a little altitude and a clear line of sight it has a good connection for as far as I can see to fly it. But when I get closer to the ground with any trees, buildings and such between us, it loses connection. Any time that's happened the Anafi has always returned safely to home. It's a fun drone and I do like the camera and of course, no geofencing. I've seen some good deals on the Autel Nano +. I like that drone, but haven't pulled the trigger on one, yet.

This will sound mean but I think we sometimes look back at old drones with rose colored glasses. It's like when a guy tried to tell me the Mavic Pro, Mavic Air or Mavic 2 Pro was perfect at launch. The Parrot Anafi was a mess at launch and a lot of features were "Pay to Play" which was dirty. Then there's the HORRIBLE transmission it had.

Can't say for sure but you're standing right next to a metal roof shelter which could be disturbing the Wi-fi. You should walk out into the middle of the field and see if you have better luck.

Did you think about the fact that you’re still using a wireless microphone though? If you record using it as a standalone microphone to the SD card with the receiver turned off, does it still try to transmit or can you set it not to?

Oh i love wasting money on yesteryear crap. Got myself a brand new Galaxy Tab S4 which has Super AMOLED, S-Pen, Samsung DeX & headphone jack! Way cheaper than the newer S6 Lite which lacks a headphone jack, a amoled screen and also doesn't support DeX. I paid less for more with the compromise of no software upates and i couldn't care less. Movies and youtube are a absolutely treat to the eyes, coppled with the finely tuned AKG quad stereospeakers hah! A delight i'm tellin ya. Oh it has Mobile Data compatbility too. Beefy Snapdragon 835 chip. Only for 150
