You’re a girl after my own heart. I discovered "cut and paste"some time back when I couldn’t bear to look at my own mess. It’s a great solution, but I resort to it only if I absolutely can’t fix it. Sometimes ugly paintings can be salvaged with a bit of thinking and lots of ink. Thank you, Teresa, especially for the peek at your pretty work

What a great idea! I actually stopped painting in my sketchbooks because of this issue. It was so depressing to go back, flip through and look at “ugly” work And then I would start a new sketchbook only to become frustrated yet again and give up. I will give this “curated sketchbook” method a shot. Thanks so much! 😀

I feel your pain! That was me. I felt like, what's the point? It seemed like a collection of my failures more than anything. It got to the point where I could paint fairly well on a piece of paper, but then when I repainted the same thing in my book, I'd mess it up every time. Psyched me out a little. LOL! But this method completely turned that around for me. I hope it helps you, too!

I've been using Moleskins for years, but I'd like to find one with more cotton in the paper and preferably more texture. Maybe I'll do a comparison video of sketchbooks! Want to make a suggestion for which to include?

My ugly pages don't bother me at all, but these are good ideas for people who are bothered. To me, it's all part of the journey, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I like to paint over anything i'm not happy about with gouache.

That's another good idea! I may be a little obsessive-compulsive: I have a separate book for gouache. 🤣
