I worked in a lab with the largest axolotl colony in the US and I am SO happy they’re getting the love they deserve

@@hollie4069 We studied regeneration inhibition, so we put them to sleep, severed their tails, and observed how much they grew back under different conditions. Severing their tails sounds gruesome but they regenerate so fast that they don’t bleed and the tail nubs heal before they wake up, so it’s not painful to the axolotls

Axolotl are adults. They can regenerate lost limbs. But they are not immortal. Tiger Salamanders are aquatic as juvinile and then land living as adults. Axolotls never reach that final morph stage. So they are aquatic their entire lives. They're endangered in the wild due to their habitats being destroyed. However they are THRIVING in captivity.
