I had an A4 Avant from 2011 and still to this day consider it one of the best cars I ever had. The design of the thing 10 years ago was incredible in my opinion, it never gave me any problems with reliability and since it was the 2.0 Liter Diesel, it consumed very little (it probably also polluted tons of NOx in the atmosphere, but hey no one's perfect). Owning now the latest A4 Avant, I have to say that the built quality was actually better in the previous gen and the design too was much better back in the day, should have just kept my old A4 😢
@madmikesch24532 жыл бұрын
No worries, it is one of the cleanest Diesel-cars like the VWs too. All brands cheated most of them a lot more than VW. A Volvo was tested with 10 times more NOx than a VW Passat with 2.0TDI. In Germany the A4 is allways the winner in reliability in its class the last 30 years .

Never had an issue bar obvious wear and tear, replacing suspension components and tyres. Regular services and just basic maintenance and they can run for a long time. Adding another car to the list. The Saturn Vue Greenline Hybrid. The other Vue models aren't half bad, but the hybrids were designed in Germany, and shared virtually zero mainstream parts, and as such were complete lemons. I owned one, and after buying it with just over 100k miles, the ABS, TC, ESC, and Hybrid power system failed, leaving me in a 4000lb crossover being lugged around by a 150whp 4 banger with a 4-speed auto. On another note, why isn't the Dodge Dart on this list? They have so many recalls and reported issues it's not even funny anymore.

my dad bought the A4 with a 2.0 Tdi engine back in 2009. Damn that car is awesome. It has 330.000km on it, without any major damage. The only part that failed was the turbocharger, but that was not because of engine problems. It still is the most reliable and safest car of my family. Cruising fun fact: The car weights about 1500kg and feels really heavy. But its a god damn arrow on the highway. It feels stable, low and incredibly comfortable at speeds over 160kmh(i live in germany)
@Byefriendo2 жыл бұрын
The TDI models of these cars are great, the 2.0TFSI + DSG combo is the real dud of the lineup (ask me how I know). And yeah they do feel really heavy, I suspect it is because they have the polar moment of inertia of a cruise ship having the big iron block engine hanging fully infront of the front axles, as well as the soft suspension and plenty of body roll.
@AlwaysHardstyle1002 жыл бұрын
I own a '09 Audi A4 Avant with the 1.8TFSI engine. As you said in the clip, I had to replace my engine costing me a healthy 6K. However, this was due to a broken chain tensioner. Never had my Audi leak or consume any oil. I did replace everything about the (new) engine. Like timing chain + tensioner, new valves, new seals, new pistons + rings, everything... Cost me a fortune, but love my Audi nonetheless and was totally worth it.

Audi a4 in the EU got most of the engine problems fixed in 2010 and by 2011 everything was fixed, 2008 and 2009 are bad if they didn't get fixed by the warranty/recall. I guess US got them late and the fixes too?

The worst I had WAS an '07 colorado. Even with the I5 the thing didn't go as fast as it should've. There were constant engine issues such as air hoses breaking, the water pump almost exploding on the way to the mechanics, starter issues that the mechanic couldn't fix, and the electrical for the AC system just not working. I was relieved when it crashed and insurance totalled it. Don't buy this vehicle. If you want a truck thats smaller than a full sized, get a tacoma. They're not as cheap, but that's because they weren't cheaply built.

Bought used 1999 Jeep GC in 2012 and it was nonstop problems, month after month. Gas hog too. But good handling and power. I young woman probably texting ran off the highway and plowed into my Jeep and totaled it. Probably did me a favor. Yet it hurt after almost eight years of repairs and improvements (like new K&N air filter, redone leather seat bottoms) and my thinking that just maybe we (me and the car) had reached a plateau and no more big issues. Looking now to buy a 2017 Honda Fit. Getting on in years and it will likely be my last car. I had a great time meeting all the mechanics and specialists in Puerto Vallarta, (which accounted for half my mileage over the eight years of ownership), but too old now to have another problemed vehicle!

Ive owned my A5 for 2 full years and edging past the 90k kilometers she's given me no cause for complaints whatsoever. My B7 has been ok once I did the timing service. Now, the B8’s are the most problematic by far. The B5, B6 and B7 may have issues, but mostly because of maintenance and age.
@joelhjones2 жыл бұрын
Following up to jonathanpeterson1’s comments, he’s referring to generations of the Audi A4, where a B8 is the 2009 ~ 2011 year range covered in the video. I own a 2010 that’s doing well with 186k mi. I had bad oil consumption that, fortunately, my Audi dealer covered full pistons and rings replacement at 90k. Then a while later after expired warranty I learned about the timing chain tensioner defect that could cause the catastrophic engine failure mentioned in the video. At my $2k expense I had the timing chain system replaced. If I were currently in the market to buy I would consider a B9. Several improvements and I haven’t heard of any reliability issues. Anyone?
