Identical Twins Pregnancy Journey: Which Minivan Should We Get?

The Hehner Fam Bam is half-way through their pregnancy with Identical Twin Boys! As they prepare for their soon to be FAMILY OF 6, Jamie and Doug will be trading in their truck for a new set of wheels….their very first MINIVAN!!!
They have it narrowed down to 2 choices; the Kia Carnival or the Toyota Sienna. How hard can it be to both agree on the same van? Which van will their kids like best? Which van can most comfortably fit 4 kids and 4 car seats???? Doug and Jamie compare them so you don’t have to!

Twin mama here who had a 3 year old at the time of their birth. We traded in our expedition after they were born for a new Toyota Sienna! The BEST decision EVER!!!! We’ve had it now 10 years, and believe it or not, it’s still like brand new… Get the leather!GET A SIENNA! You will NOT be disappointed. I’ve also had a Camry, and we have a Tundra and RAV4 now for my oldest daughter who is learning to drive now. Good luck!!

Also, for traveling and vacations we had a towing package installed on our Sienna. Traveling with twins (in addition to the rest of your family) requires LOTS of stuff. I highly recommend a nice hitch mounted cargo carrier. Such a lifesaver when traveling long distances. We really enjoy and still use ours…

Yes, agree with this. Honda is a quality vehicle, regardless which honda you get. You can feel the quality when you drive it. I had a KiA, and it wasn't a bad car, it lasted 10 years, and I have a Honda now, and I wouldn't go back to the KiA, I'd stick with my Honda.

The Toyota Sienna was instrumental in keeping us safe in a serious car accident. Our replacement is a Honda Odyssey and I love it.The only reason we didn't get another Sienna was due to time constraints and not being able to find an 8 seater in the amount of time we had to shop for a new van. Our Odyssey seats 8, is roomy, safe and we love it. Leather seats are better in my opinion so don't settle for anything but what you want and of course, safety 1st.

Check out the Honda Odyssey! We got ours 6 months ago and LOVEEEE IT!!! Don’t fall for the Kia! It may have fancy tech but the resale value is terrible, and the longevity is bad, it just doesn’t last like the Honda and Toyota. You can also take the middle seat out and keep the 2 captains chairs in the second row, and since the seatbelts are attached to the seat itself and not to the door, you can slide the captains chairs in and out! It’s been a game changer for us because our oldest sits in the 3rd row, we have 2 car seats in the 2nd row and can have our toddler sitting in the middle of the van but still in the captain chair so we can easily hand back snacks and drinks to him if needed 😅

I realize that this video was a month ago, BUT…. We switched to a mini van last year and ended up in a hybrid Chrysler Pacifica! We absolutely LOVE IT! It has all the safety features that you mentioned these two vans have, it has AMAZING gas mileage, the passenger seats completely stow into the floor (making the whole back of the van flat for storage if needed), AND all the two passenger seats in the first row are captain’s seats = WAY EASIER to climb to the very back row! If looking for a used Sienna, you won't find many. It's the #1 selling and rated van. Kia do not hold value at all. Depending on where you are, the Toyota dealership should have new ones. If not, look online . The new 2024 Sienna is awesome!! Also although it's a Toyota, it's 100% American made in Princeton IN!

My mom has had 2 or 3 Siennas. She’s 77 and LOVES them!!! They drive forever and are super roomy. I have had a Kia Sportage for 10 years. Nov of 2023 I got a letter in the mail to keep my Kia parked away from my house because the engine might catch fire at any moment because a fuse needs to be replaced. Is the fuse available? No. When will it be available? Kia has no idea. Never buying a Kia again. BUY THE SIENNA!!!!!

I had 4 kids and found a van not big enough. I drove a Yukon XL Denali and LOVED it. Great safety features and TONS of room for sports stuff for older kids , room for stroller and company

So Chrysler has the stow and go. ( which essentially hides the seat in the floor) no other mini van has that option. They either have to come out completely or only move. We just did the mini van hunt

We used to own Midas shops. My husband, who was an ASE certified mechanic, would tell you to get either a Honda or Toyota. Anything else is crap.

Toyota most definitely. The parts are made to last twice as long as any other car. That info was from a mechanic. All I ever done and I have had 4 is to keep oil changed and a st of tires. I keep a car for at least 5-7 years.

We bought the Hyundai Pallisade because the Kia dealer didn’t have a Telluride. The Hyundai and Kia warranties are worth their weight in gold!!!! Don’t discount the warranty. We LOVE our Pallisade (7 seats).

I have a minivan now, and love it. but I’m looking at a Hyundai palisade possibly for the next vehicle because it’s very similar to my minivan. I actually drive a Dodge grand minivan. I never wanted to be a minivan mom, but it’s really nice having all the space. and Doug, the space inside my minivan with all the seats down, gives me as much or more room than the back end of your truck. I have moved several times with my minivan, including things that people did not think would fit in the van and still had room.

We have a Toyota sienna and love it! Before our 2021 we had a 2009 and it lasted over 200,000 miles before we sold it and upgraded. I would go either Toyota or Honda. The upside of the Honda is that the middle row seats are customizable

I had a minivan for my last 4 cars. Ford, Toyota, Kia and Dodge. I just got a Hyundai Palisade, which is an SUV, it’s fantastic!! 7 seats, all the bells and whistles, and the great Hyundai warranty and safety ratings. Don’t discount the SUV’s. Check the Hyundai Palisade Limited, not the top of the line but almost the top and it’s awesome. And the salesman told me that the car was trending on Tik Tok now LOL

What it comes down to is do your research on whichever ones that your feeling. Check car magazines and research on line. How spendy is oul changes, all maintenance points. Size of tires to replace, tune ups, replacement parts of the things that breakdown the most. Do comparison's.

My husband had a sienna up until 200 thousand miles. He loved it. Now he has a Dodge Caravan its bigger and low maintence. Drives quietly. He loves this car also. Seats are easy to adjust. There is lots of room for stroller. Hyundai Kia is rated very high now I have had 3 Hyundai cars Dealer in Sarasota is awesome Haven't paid for any repairs they give you 3 years free, road service for 3 years and 100, 000 covered.

We got the Kia Telluride back in 2022 before our second baby. Absolutely love it! We did consider the Carnival but didn't because it's not AWD (live in the PNW). Probably the only reason we didn't test drive it. I honestly didn't realize it was a minivan when looking. Anyway, we love our 3 row seats in the Telluride, get decent mileage and decent room for an SUV. Can't wait to see what you go with!

Kia and Hyundai have a lot of recalls. I have a Kia, I've never had a problem, but there is recall for the engine starting on fire. My son has a Hyundai and has had 2 bad engines, but Hyunfai paie for them. Toyota are great, but a hybrid battery will cost $1000. You should look into a suburban.

Our 2015 Sienna has 172k miles and is great. The interior has held up to my 6 kids beatings, they are made for kids. We had a Sorento, the interior just started falling apart at 50k, promised warranty ended up sucking and we got rid of it at 110k because problems kept coming up and frustrations of functions not working properly. Issues started at 2 years old.

My daughter and her husband actually just bought a Kia Carnival. They were also having a hard time choosing between the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Sienna. They are expecting twins as well. My son-in-law loves all the safety features of the Kia. He has already installed the car seats and put the double stroller in the back just to check out how much room they would have. I really should have brought up that my niece has the Sienna and she loves it. Especially when the kids want to get up and walk around when you're parked they have room to move. Overall you're going to get your bang for your buck add a Toyota they live up to their name. You can order the seats that you want

Always Toyota. They are work horses. They are rarely in the shop. They have the same safety features as the carnival (minus the camera stuff inside). It cost us only $150 to drive from San Antonio to Orlando.

My wife and I bought a used Kia Sedona which is now the Kia Carnival and have been so happy with it that we are probably going to get her a carnival in the next couple of years. I wouldn't have even considered Kia but my father in law who is a mechanic by trade told me that Kia had made great strides in their manufacturing and their warrantees are second to none he was right. The value has maintained and the dealership we bought it from is still trying to buy it back from us for a really good price but we aren't selling it. I'd say Kia over the Toyota and I love and have had Toyotas since I started driving over 20 years ago.

My closest friends recently became a family of 6 and originally they were going to get the Toyota Sienna but could never get a stock of it and ended up getting the Kia Carnival(8 seater) and they love it. It doesn’t look like you’d expect a Kia to look(lower/cheaper version of Hyundai). The trunk is decently deep considering the three rows.

I have had six Siennas they are awesome. The last one we leased we sold for $10,000 more than the lease payoffs. Kiss do not hold value and the safety features are equal. Unless you are driving on the interstate the Hybrid needed gas every three months. Also I drove 550 miles on interstate on a tank. I love the middle back seat comes out so you can walk back to this row. When you fold down back and push second row seats over I could get anything in the back I could in a truck. Two tips get the step up running boards and buy weather tech mats for back and floor mats. Again holds that value. I cried when I traded Landcruiser for first minivan after getting Sienna I wanted nothing else. It drives and rides like a luxury car. Tell them what you want and they will get it for you. Mine were always brought from another dealership.

I work for an insurance company just fyi Kia and Hyundai model are generally have a higher premium because they have a high theft rate. So that’s also something to take into consideration.

Something to think about.. it's so hard to change a babies diaper in a van when all your seats are full of car seats. I didn't even think about it until I bought one. The back being a hole and not flat like an SUV wasn't something I even thought about. I traded for a Suburban before I had my 4th baby.

Check for trunk space…which one can fit a twin stroller, diaper bags, luggage, etc. Stroller tend to be big nowadays. 😁 I recommend a Honda Pilot (it seats 8). I had mine when my kids were growing up and just recently passed it to my brother in law with over 200k miles and it’s still going strong. I plan on getting another one once I have grandkids. Haha!

Sienna hands down. We have one and drove it from WI to FL with 3 kids, it was great. We tested all the others. Also keep in mind that KIA vehicles get broken into regularly.

I think the Kia is a good car. They are price economical and the cameras are great. I love the Toyota Sienna. Toyota makes a better car as they install the best parts. But, I would be torn. I am no help at all! Lol! Check the safety reports and go with the best safety overall. You have four precious angels in your vehicle and two more on the way! Some insurance carriers have an issue with Kias and Hyundais. Kias have lots of mechanical problems. Toyota and Honda will last you forever with hardly any problems!

My issues with my SUV is parking lots. When trying to get babies/ toddlers/children in carseats, if anyone parks close you cant get the door open enough to maneuver getting a child in a carseat. Many times my husband has had to back out so i could accomplish this. A van, with the sliding doors would make this soooo much better!!! I vote van, and i do like the looks of the Kia the best.

Personally, team Toyota or Honda. Safety ratings are excellent. My Toyotas (Rav4s) have had very minimal maintenance/problems over the last 15 years.

I don't have a vote on way or another, but I had a KIA for like 10 years, and never had any major issues. In terms of leaving me stranded, major repairs, etc. It was a good all around car.

My Toyota corrola I had for 9yrs with zero issues. Upgrade to the Sienna when pregnant with our 2nd child. Had it for 8yrs, only issue was the power slider on passenger side... turns out there was a recall. Fix and then no issues. Canadian winters. I would go with a Toyota or Honda. My husband had his Civic for 10yrs and we upgraded to an Accord when we had our 2nd child. Accord will be 9yrs this year, zero problem with it. Civic only issue we had was something with the E-break. Definitely better value than a Kia. Kia carnival has some cool features though. Happy shopping!

We would spray our Sierra seats with Scotch guard every couple of years. FYI... Spray the ceiling as well! Straw sippy cups splatter on the ceiling when they open them. Or icecream cones when they're bigger, and raise their arm to look for something beside them! 🤣
