As to stumbling, I do a lot of body work and that often goes along with girthy issues. 3 Big body causes. 1 is tight extensors which can be easily fixed with bent knee lift/ stretch. The other 2 need a professkonal, looked 1st rib and locked diaphram. Of course our long and low helps ameliorate all of this.

@@IvyS I also have a gaited registered QH that I've had for 12 yrs. I never really looked into the gaits much, just enjoyed riding a horse that's (sometimes🙄) smooth as glass. Now that I've got a "real" gaited horse, a TWH, I'm looking into all the why's and how's. It's really quite fascinating. 😁

Have you thought about doing videos on specific gaited horse breeds and their specific gait? Might be extremely helpful for some of us.
@IvyS
@IvyS 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! If you watch more of my videos, you'll see I do have a couple videos on the different gaits, but I try to stay away from that because it only matters in the show ring and I'm focused on relaxed gaits. Often horses will be doing the same gait, but the different breeds call it something different. It can be really confusing. Is there a gait in particular you are curious about?
@IvyS

I have videos on the foxtrot, pace, stepping pace, saddle rack. And my new DVD will have videos on all the main gaits. :)

Some of my friends are deaf including horse trainers so can't hear the gait. Headshake for foxtorm head nod for runningwalk, usually not much head movement for the saddlerack.

do you want to stop the running walk..I have a rocky who has a very fast walk..not sure if it is running walk..head does go up and down
@IvyS
@IvyS 7 ай бұрын
That sounds like a flat walk, which is fine if that's what you want. It is a fine gait. I don't love it because of all the movement I feel.

Does ground work help with stumbling
@IvyS
@IvyS 3 жыл бұрын
The right kind of groundwork can help. But you have to make sure it isn't a bad trim or shoes causing the problem. You need to make sure it isn't an issue like Lyme's disease or something like that. Then you can work on good ground work and lateral work from the saddle.

We are working on our gait but also on a drill team which sometimes I'm having to push her and causing her to pace. Will this ruin her ?
@IvyS
@IvyS 3 жыл бұрын
It won't ruin her, but you'll have a very hard time keeping her in gait. If you aren't building gaiting muscles then you're building pacing muscles. And that's a choice you have to make.

Why is it harder to gait in arena
@IvyS
@IvyS 2 ай бұрын
It might have to do with footing or not giving a horse good motivation to try in the arena. I don't usually struggle unless I am having a hard time distinguishing the gait, then I need to ride where I can hear it.
