It depends on what the manufacturer wants to use really, but backpacks almost always use Coil zipper same as luggage and most often #10. They use coil because the zipper slider moves smoother around curves and tends to be a more rugged under those circumstances. Bags I see a wide variety. First you figure out if you have vislon (molded tooth) or ziplon (coil). This video helps identify the vislon (molded tooth) sliders and not coil.
