A land restoration technique is to take a large junk tree cut it down somewhat. even girdle it and then plant it with multiple flowering vines ranging from aggressive vines like trumpet vine to docile clemati even annual vines like morning glories. a tree surrounded by lots of grass prevents vine spread. The tree eventually turns to crumble. there is an edible fungi that can emanate from silver maple. I planted a silver maple with sedums etc and then the fungi appeared as well. I had kept a long section as a barrier in the garden. yoyu can bleed a silver maple in the spring completely
