In this episode, I'm out metal detecting some farm fields where several old homesites used to stand, as well as an old store. It turns out to be an awesome hunt with all the stuff I love to dig-a little bit of everything you might say! Hope y'all enjoy and thanks as always for watching!
*Still using the Nox 800 a bit as I continue to learn the Manticore. So far I love it, just not as confident as I am with the Nox, but that'll change soon I'm sure.

Wow, you found some amazing coins and relics! Thank you for sharing all of them in your round ups. The 1855 is beautiful as are the buckle and key lock. You are so right about how detailed everything was made and the fact that over 100 years later we can still make it out shows quality! That is missing in so much nowadays..it would be awesome to make a mold of the buckle detail and make jewelry out of the pattern. Linking the past to present! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise! Keep on detecting and sharing!!👍🪙😃

Maybe the half-pear brass thing is from a old sliding balance scale -- you mentioned a store nearby, sort of thing they would have had.

Great work, big brass is a kettle lug for the handle to attach, but I think I already said that earlier

@@IDigHistory I am, just discovered the channel now that we have 12” of snow on the ground there’s not much else to do. Really enjoy the channel. Louisiana looks like a great place to detect, lots of history like New England. The kettle lug I found was very heavy, really ornate and was about 16” under ground, it took me a few weeks of posting it online to figure out what it was. I was told the groove was placed over matching protrusion and hammered into a tight fit, then the iron handle was attached. Keep the videos coming!!!

Nice hunt, I am from north central Ohio and love watching you southerners dig CW artifacts. The half dime is a nice find as well and the sash buckle is a beautiful. I think the brass item that looks kinda like half of a pear is half of a shifter knob for an old pickup or tractor. Good hunting!

Thanks! Yeah, CW relics are hard to beat in my book. That mystery piece definitely could be something like that, I'm still looking for a positive ID on it. Appreciate you watching!

Really nice finds!! Enjoyed thoroughly. At 25:40 I think that possibly could be a pin for securing a epaulet to the jacket of union calvary soldier. Great content, Thanks

That’s exactly what it is, a little bit bent but it’s the trigger guard and front strap of the grip with the trigger guard broken off.

The curved piece that looks like a trigger guard, may be the hammer off of a musket to cock it. Not sure. Great videos!!

Thanks Wayne! Believe it or not, it turned out to be the trigger guard/handle of a M1860 Colt revolver!

Really like watching your videos. That one curved pieces kinds looks the side hammer from an old muzzle loader or flintlock. If you don't mind sharing a little, I'm just curious what those Indian head pennies come in at on the 800? I'm still searching for my first one. Thx and good luck.
@IDigHistory
@IDigHistory Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kenneth! It actually turned out to be the trigger/handle piece from an M1860 pistol. The Indian Head's usually come in around 21, but I've had them come in even lower down to 18 even. But typically, 21.

@IDigHistory

I love it. If you haven't gotten it yet, download the manual and go thru all of it. Also watch some tutorials. There's a lot more to it than the Nox series and learning the settings is going to be key. I'm def still in the learning phase of it, but I can already see how good it's going to be.

I was wondering what you like to hunt in on the manticore? I just ordered one. I love my nox 800 but just wanted to try it to see if it’s any better. Plus wanted to tell you I watched your video on how to get permissions and wrote three letters and got two permissions so far! I think people respect the fact I take the time to hand write a letter. Normally people love to tell me no. Lol
@IDigHistory
@IDigHistory Жыл бұрын
That's awesome about your letter writing success! Glad it's worked for you, I'm convinced folks appreciate the hand-written part as well. For the Manticore, I'm still playing around with the settings. I've been using the All-Terrain General and AT High Conductors settings the most. Using the tone, target ID#, and signal tracing display all together definitely provides more insight into a target. I think once I get comfortable with it, I'll dig less trash for sure. Very happy so far.

@@IDigHistory what are you using on tones. All tones? Or 5 regions tones? I’m with you on hoping to dig less trash. That’s pretty much only reason I bought manticore instead of 900. Hoping 2D screen helps with that
