video edit ****I apologize it has come to my attention that there was not a material difference between non turbo and Factory turbo connecting rods. I know for a fact thou the factory turbo engines had a larger wrist pin. I must have gotten confused because of the differences and the PMR and forged Powerstroke rods. Apparently all idi rods were forged steel.

Just bought a 1987 6.9, nice shape 90,000 miles on it, came with a Banks Turbo on it, thanks for this information.

Thanks for the video. I've been looking for some information before I remove the turbo on my 1990. Guy I bought it from installed an ATS kit, but didn't relocate the glow plug controller. It's having issues now. I have the relocation to fender kit, but no access to the controller unless I remove the turbo and heat shield. By the way, also liked seeing the Bible on the table. Blessings to you.

Good tips, thanks dude. My late grandpa left me an 02 Lariat 7.3 with the ZF6, only 85k miles. I like it but i wanna get a turbo IDI to drive daily because i can work on it more than the PSD and it's more affordable, might as well keep the PSD in the garage and just use it for taking the car to the track/strip.

Hi Mike just watching your video again and wanted to ask if you are supposed to adjust the pump timing when adding the 093 kit on a NA engine and if so what do you recommend?
@oskar-vz2vh2 жыл бұрын
That torque screw that you speak of is that where you turn up the fuel on the injection pump on the turbo engines instead of like the other pumps where it was that Dimond plate cover on the the side n/a injection pumps?

This was awesome loved someone nerding on a ol 7thrree. You ever mess with powerstroke 7.3s?

I have a little but that's more my brother's arena. I like em I just not where my passion is at. I like simple and I like something I can diagnose 100% without a special mechanic.

@@groundtogreen1140 I love my 7.3 idi but I came across a great deal on a rebuilt 02 7.3. I'm looking into swapping into my 1990 f350

Any advice on removing the turbo down pipe elbow on the back of the turbo? i bought a elbow from R &D with a wider output.
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
to remove the elbow you have to pull the charger now way around it.

Do you have any complete used factory or ats kits you would sell?
@CollinWeis6 жыл бұрын
I find it kind of interesting that factory and aftermarket turbo kits were wastegated. Considering the 7.3 Powerstroke which is seen as more advanced technology, if you will, didn't get a wastegate or an intercooler until 1999 with the Super Duty trucks. Did Ford or anyone offer an intercooler with their kits when they first came onto the market?
@groundtogreen11406 жыл бұрын
Collin Weis ats had one but kinda rare to find it. And ford never factory ic these.
@CollinWeis6 жыл бұрын
Mike Grn I also find it kind of interesting that they were still using journal bearing turbos at this point (I mean, the 90s, but whatever.) Lol

hey mike I was thinking of adding a turbo to my 85 6.9 is there a kit you would recommend more then another. what other modifications are a must would you say to do at the same time to make the motor last and hopefully put out 300+ hp
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
factory kit has most aftermarket options I actually have a used kit in good shape up fs atm but they sell quick
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
as for 300hp youll need a bigger cc ip to accomplish those numbers

How much are you charging and would you ship to Canada at my cost

Hey man. Don't know if you're still active or not but I'm looking at getting an 86 F-250 with a 6.9 in it, has no rust and only 126k on it. What should I look out for and what should I replace right away?
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
pretty much the basics- good oil psi, no coolant bubbling in overflow, no knocks or excessive ticks, no rigged wiring. Imo every new idi truck should get a complete fuel system overhaul evaluation its what will give ya the most problems if it wasnt maintained
@thatpurpleshortbed30975 жыл бұрын
@@groundtogreen1140 any idea what it'll run me? On a bit of a budget. From what I've been told by others I should also thinking about replacing the CDR valve. This'll be the first diesel I've owned so trying to get as much info as I can
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
@@thatpurpleshortbed3097 look at some of my starter vids too. Id say return line kit at least they are cheap. I normally do injectors and injection pump depending on how everything else looks and I also normally redo the feed lines of course the past couple used trucks i had needed it. if your on a budget and everything looks maintained then do the simple stuff and save up for the more expensive items. Yea a new cdr should be done or deleted entirely

you don't have a 7-3 you've got rebuilt do you good high-quality rebuild
@groundtogreen11405 жыл бұрын
I don't rebuild no. If I were to get a reman I would highly consider a promar reman their price for a sleeved block is hard to beat
@robertatwood25035 жыл бұрын
Mike Grn they need to be giving you a referral discount 3850 for a long block replacing head gasket was an option with the corrosion in the engine visible from replacing hoses thermostat gaskets and all that stuff the chances of this thing having cavitation pitting failure in the very near future is high so I went ahead and spend the money to get a new block I don't have a place to rebuild one I just hope that this is a good engine that will give me years of service
