I prefer Shoshana. Listen to her in She Used to Be Mine. Incredible. The sound quality of the Idina clips is much better than the Shoshana clips in these. At least the first half. Not really an apples to apples comparison. Also, Shoshana is 10 years younger and was Idina's under study in Wicked before taking the role for a year after Idina finished. Her voice has really improved since that time so those Wicked clips aren't really comparable. I thought she was better on the Don't Rain on My Parade and other songs where their experience level is more comparable.

I love and respect them both. I love both of their versions and how they both convey you to believe what they are singing about. However, while Idina can often hit those very high money notes and change the tone of the entire song her voice sounds like it’s straining and screeching a bit while Shoshana has insane vocal control. Having a better version is one thing but singing it better is another. Listen to Shoshana Bean’s home with Scott Allen on KZbin-a song she wrote and sang with insane emotion and vocal control and you will see what I mean. Even the high notes she sang in wicked are sung with ease and not strain. It flows well and is more soothing to the ears and wholesome.

Idina won all the way, not just because ive been the biggest fan of her. Because of her version of it, when she sang let it go she made that big twist and made the "anyway" On a higher note, the original sound it was just a lower note. Oh and her "Hey there Toronto, here I am! " In 'Don't rain on my parade' her "Am!" On that, ooof💜Q.U.E.E.N Appreciate that long note she did for that song✊🏼😔

Idina, just because she has the emotional range in her voice. Shoshana has MAD technique and vocal control that Idina doesn't however. Idina is the actress that sings, and Shoshana is the singer who acts, that's how I see the two of them as Elphaba honestly, and also listening to this, it's also my opinion for each of their deliveries.

Shoshana, the only Soprano 1 to ever play Elphaba. This show truly killed Shos ability to sing in her natural key. People forget the raw talent Sho displayed as Elphaba. Shoshana single handily made certain Wicked was a success without Idina or Kristen. The only actress to be held responsible for Wicked Sales rising and not plummeting after Replacing a Veteran Tony Winner.Vocally, Shoshana should have played Galinda but she was type cast based on her appearance. Sho went through numerous sicknesses and the death of her boyfriend while playing Elphaba. She’s the only one to have to replace the Tony winning actress in the 15th hour of the Tony Winners final show. She’s the only one that had to play Elphaba with a broken lift. She’s the only one that had to sing NGD on the anniversary of her boyfriends death. What Sho did with her challenges playing Elphaba and taking over in a show which normally would fail without the Tony Winning performance. still a decade later, mind boggling Master Artistry is what makes her one of the strongest Elphabas to date. For that reason, Sho wins.

They are both good, I think Shoshana singing is more effortless than Idina especially the high notes. A lot of the songs were originated by Idina so it's a little unfair to compare these too great singers.

These types of videos are not helpful or fair. Taking clips out of context, video editing under different circumstances with different orchestras are not fair to anybody. Why not just post videos separately and say there are two great artists. I don't know why there is thus drive to pit one artist against another.
