We must remember Shoshana Bean IS 100% the reason why WICKED producers believed that the show was bigger than Idina Menzel. This is the same girl that led sold out shows on a regular basis with her voice when she was a virtual nobody. She was carving herself out a lane to be a legend until Tyler's death. He challenged her to be bigger, be better, and believe she's enough. His death taught her a reality she was just doing a job living in NYC . This performance just shows all of Tyler's lessons coming to fruition. The power of Love ❤❤❤

It's not simple to say That most days I don't recognize me That these shoes and this apron That place and its patrons Have taken more than I gave them It's not easy to know I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true I was never attention's sweet center I still remember that girl She's imperfect, but she tries She is good, but she lies She is hard on herself She is broken and won't ask for help She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who'll be reckless, just enough Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck And be scared of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone, but used to be mine Used to be mine She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine

The second verse really solidified this performance for me. Sho brings such incredible anger and grief to the song that pairs so powerfully with its words, such sadness into grasping at what she’s lost. It’s fantastic, and her face acting in that verse is stunning.

This is an example of Musical Theatre Singing at its absolute best. She is so close to breaking the ENTIRE song, but her need to communicate this always balances her emotional passion. She rides a razor’s edge of technique and emotion. Very VERY few people can sing and act like this at the same time.

I love the distortion in her belts, especially the top belts in this song. It makes it sound like she’s screaming in anger and resentment. Such a great choice for this song. It’s so emotional 😭

This version always makes me cry. It's so relatable feeling the grief over the person you feel you were supposed to be but didn't get to be due to your own misgivings. Love Shoshanna

Most perfect musicality I've seen with the dark confession theme of this song. Like the connection feeling of going to an AA meeting. Thank you!

This is such a powerful song that it can overwhelm the singer and take both the performer and the audience places. This version, in contrast, I feel that the singer is in perfect control of how she tells the story, even as she belts it out towards the end. I loved how she was holding back at the beginning, letting the dramatic tension build up, and build up, and how she made sure to have enough left to raise it up a notch at the right places in the end.

This is stunning demonstration of the power an actor has in creating a sung narrative, that has no need for special effects or a huge orchestration behind her. You take the journey with her. Beautiful.

i recently watched the show on broadway, and i am so grateful i was able to see shoshana as jenna. in my opinion, her and jesse are my top jennas. shoshana at least broke down twice in this song, which i am so blessed to have witness. to witness an actor to be vulnerable while performing their art, and really let go, is truly amazing. the pain in her voice and the struggle to finish the song hit me. it was amazing bc she was choking up in words, and then suddenly pulls out a magnificent belt to end the song. i just can’t help but point out the times she has broken down during the emotional parts of the show (which is AMAZING) bc it shows how devoted she is to the character, and how much of a beautiful artist she is. she really engages the audience, and really connects with us. #iloveshoshana4ever💜

I never got this song before hearing her sing it. Made me cry for my old, hurt, but beautiful self. I'm inspired to find that beauty, again, and never again let her go.💞
