Someone told Marvin they were running late and to wrap it up. Idina's wondering why Marvin's playing the song as fast as a goddam saloon rag. She can barely keep up or sing over his loud embellishments. BTW, Idina should sue the hell out of the guy who invented autocorrect.

Played Florence Vassy in the concert series of Chess! Was Nancy Tremaine in the movie Enchanted. Aaaaaand is currently working on originating the role of Elizabeth in the new musical, If/Then coming to Broadway in March 2014! She's done some other things like, personal albums and concert tours with her own music and such. But those are faves.

And the number of Tony noms she's had ? And the number of Tony wins she's had ? Any Encores ! performances ? How many original roles in Broadway productions ? Still curious.
@Bookworm04856 жыл бұрын
She's had 3 Tony nominations and won 1 Tony (for her role as Elphaba in the musical Wicked). As far as performances/encores shexs performed on multiple awards shows (the Tony's and the Oscar's) and had many appearances on TV talk shows where she's performed songs from RENT, Wicked, and Frozen. Shexs originated the roles of Maureen in RENT and Elphaba in wicked and voiced one of the lead characters, Elsa, in Frozen.

Everyone is critic. This version of the song is not the best, but Idina Menzel is one of the best voices of our time. In this instance I blame Mr Hamlish for a weak orchestration performance. Linda Eders version is the best one.

She slaughtered this, oh dear. Not in time at all- missed her entrances and the composer had to extend his own music... She adds so many unnecessary trills, her voice breaks and the end note is just so unsupported. Anyone who knows this song will know im right :/
@kimberley45am9 жыл бұрын
Couldn't disagree more actually. This isn't the musical version, she made it different. Considering Marvin worked with her on so many occasions I'm sure he would disagree with you too!
@ricardogarcia66169 жыл бұрын
kimberley45am Marvin Hamlisch accompanied Idina so many times!! And I think you're right Kim.
@danic54879 жыл бұрын
Katie Munroe actually I know this song very well and I disagree completely. Every singer has it's way of doing a song, Idina has a very passionate and strong voice that can't and shouldn't be concealed no matter the song. This song is about look foward and Forget the past, is a woman claiming her right to love and Idina gives the song, the power and emotion it needs. Sir Marvin worked with her in this song before this performance so she's performing it the exact way they agreed on. Now speaking about the technique this song demans, her voice didn't break, there was two notes she overpowered yes but it's just the way she choose to perform, the last note wasn't unsupported, it was just more fragile because the song itself demanded it, it's a very emotional song that needs an emotional ending, emotions are fragile. I understand if you like the original song, I do too, and I understand that maybe you didn't liked Idina's performance but that doesn't make it a bad performance, it's personal taste not a technical mistake of Idina. :)

@nachoignacio227 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. This is NOT a song to prove your vocal capabilities. Its meant to be sung as an ensemble, not as a diva. Not gonna discus how amazing Idina Mendel is, but this song is to be performed at perfect tempo, not adding ANY vocal flourish as a ensemble would have sung it. It is then when it makes perfect sense with the lyrics and what it tries to express. Only an opinion though

@sugarhoneyicedtea1238 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't get why Idina is so famous aside from when she played Maureen in the original cast of Rent but that was eons ago. There are singers on broadway that blow her way out of the water even people who aren't even famous are better than her. Her technique is atrocious. All the "Fanzels" can come at me all you want but people who know music know that I'm right.

I wouldn't compliment this girl for her lousy treatment of this lovely tune. Everything about her singing that could go wrong went seriously wrong. Yet, I see no point criticizing the piano accompanymemt, as it did the song justice. The tempo is just right, not as somebody said here too fast, and the rich harmony and tasteful runs, embellishments, ad libs, improvs, and overall layout was really nice and touching, I don't find it overdone or in any way inferior, or substandard. Simply wonderful! But I'm not here to comment on the music, I simply want to say that it is such a great thing to be the leader of a free country, as the performances at the Whitehouse is simply more enjoyable than any possible grand propaganda extravaganza that the leaders of those Communist countries, like North Korea, Vietnam, or Red Chi-Na, could ever have the chance to enjoy at their designated performance venues.
@jldlc76108 жыл бұрын
Why on Earth would you spend at least half of your comment on the music, then say you weren't here to comment on the music, and then proceed to bring up contextually irrelevant issues? Surely there are more appropriate places to discuss Communism and American superiority? Never mind that you haven't been the leader of a free country, but you just KNOW that it's such a great thing because they get to see nicer shows than people in third world countries.
@OperaDan8 жыл бұрын
I am sorry for your confusion. Maybe I should say "my main purpose is not lying so much on commenting the music" instead. That would be a more accurate depiction of my true intention. Yes, you are right about the relevance of discussing political issues, but sir, the internet is a free domain, and everybody has the right to speak their mind without hindrance.

I always want to give Idina Menzel a chance to surprise me and have a good performance, because I REALLY want to like her and view her as still being as talented as she used to be. But I'm sorry, her voice has gotten worse and I cringed throughout a lot of the song. She still sung some notes well, but overall? I was disappointed.
