Civ's got a really big problem of captured cities being a lot more hassle than they are worth, and with Lewis moving to attacking Potato with his swarms of flesh I'm guessing he decided that keeping the city just wasn't worth it.

Yeah I don't mind it even if it does need more rules and tweaking to work. You either knock someone out the game or cripple them so badly they may as well be. It's a nice idea for a compromise while keeping war less of a crab bucket and more of a win-condition while still playing the game at a fast speed so it doesn't take 10 hours to complete a game (that and Rythian gets to keep playing Sim City).

Point if clarity. Was Lewis suggesting a domination victory by accepting surrenders instead of requiring the capital like the game demands? Because I originally thought he was suggesting that if a diplomatic victory was to be voted on spiffy would need to vote for Lewis as he surrendered. I'd be fine with either domination or diplomacy being applied here but was curious what he meant

He seemed to be proposing a homebrew alternate domination victory where you don't actually take players out of the game, you just get them to capitulate to you in a way where they could still win through science or culture or counter-domination or whatever later if you don't get the others to capitulate first. Which I think would be a good idea, especially for these youtube/twitch series.

He was also high priest of Ra, which is how his name entered horror literature. So, that's why he's a great engineer in the game.

potato got major unhappiness because he went down an Ideology that no player had any meaningful tourism pressure. Autocracy had spiff with the biggist tourism pressure. while freedom had duncan with tourism pressure too. both daltos and potato (who went order) were generating next to 0 tourism. you want to generate a tiny bit of tourism just to make sure you're not super unhappy. I think around 30 tourism is good enough ryhtian is irrelevant

The problem with war in Civ V is that even winning a war sets you behind. So long as Potato holds off Lewis, Rythian loses absolutely nothing for "surrendering," and also avoids having to spend the necessary resources on war. He'll probably come out the other end stronger than Lewis and Potato, but even so I don't think he'll be able to catch up to Duncan and Daltos.

@@Zergling. Pretty sure they just count as being defeated for the purposes of Lewis' domination victory, which in Civ V does not preclude the defeated player from winning a different victory condition. At least, that was what Lewis repeated the most often.

Civ 5 really needed a war penalty to prevent exactly this. There's no point in doing anything more than shitting out one turn units until all the tiles are full once you can, because at that point they lose all yields and can't do anything because there's nowhere to put new units.

What about a minimum turn count to produce a unit? Even if you had infinite production, a unit can't go below 4 turns of production for instance.

@@meursaulty6672 I prefer the Civ 6 route. You can continue doing war indefinitely if you're managing things well, but if you're overextending troop production and/or losing too many units, it tanks your happiness. Which makes sense. Nobody wants to live in WW2 Russia.

I think part of the reason Rythian never does that well in Civ is he tries to minimize what he has to do every game. "I only ever get 4 cities and automize my workers" Yeah so you'll never win man, you need to PUSH

For the surrender, is there no mod that makes vassals? it could work in multiplayer, you choose to capitulate and become a vassal to someone giving them some % of what you produce and makes so you cant do any victory conditon, culture/science. Can go with different settings too, maybe you will always have open borders to your master, your empire receives alot of pressure from religion and turism from your master, some of your great people points now go to your master, if your master is doing trade routes with you he gets bonus science/culture and money, that will be nice to make people vassals, you have a secure trade route. Just ideas.

There is a mod called, Civilization IV Diplomatic Features, which allows you to vassalize another civ. Idk if it works in multiplayer, but there is a option to enable “human vassalization”.

if one player has a massive horde of troops like lewis has, there's a very easy way to win, make 2 lines of troops, the first should always be defending, and the second line should be an unit that shoots over the first line, for example in the medieval era it would be long swordsman and crossbow man, and in the later eras when you get things like artillery you can pretty much make it 3 lines, 2 lines of troops that are supposed to just soak up damage (and they can switch with each other when one gets too low ;) and the artillery behind just shooting over everyone, this also works on the offensive too btw, in fact when it gets to later eras I pretty much move artillery first to make sure it can reach somewhere where it can fire upon my target, and only after I move the troops that will do the attacking
