It is illegal. FMCCSA regulations require that your truck sleeper be comfortable and you can refuse to drive the truck if it is not and if the company takes any action against you it’s a lawsuit on a silver platter. The problem is that too many drivers put up with it and that’s why the companies get away with it.

This don't work in my 2023 freightliner but I found different way. 1 start engine. 2 step on brake. 3 push brake button (truck) keep trailers brake on. 4 if no attached to trailer you have to shock tires. This way you trick truck into driving but is park. Some times I have to try more than one time, then I wait for the alarm of set bakes and I punch yellow b out and in and works.

I currently have a 24. 20k miles on it with an APU. APU no longer works and truck won't idle. I have to release the tractor brakes for it to idle. Not the safest thing to do but I have to sleep at some point. Just make sure your trailer brakes work properly.

Guys if your truck gets too COLD and the bunk heater isn’t doing it. Go to Engine idle adjust screen, crank up the idle all the way and just leave it on that screen. I did this and my truck has been running now with heater over an hour!

My truck idles for an hr then shuts down for a few hrs and then starts again. Its great, stay toasty all nigjt. Its a 2020 freigjtliner Cas. I learned how to do it on utube, it help me out a ton. Very easy to do.

Go back go idling at 900 RPMs, its better for the engine. If you're not paying for fuel it doesn't matter, if you own the truck then spending the cash on more fuel is worth the engine life. Either spend extra on fuel to high idle or get an APU.

I’ve heard it’s better to idle at a higher rpm for higher oil pressure and that low idling with low oil pressure can cause premature failure over time, can anyone verify this. Is it worth it to high idle and waste more fuel or should you just raise to rpm a little to keep it running in the idle adjust mode.

It all depends on how your company has it set up. There shouldn't be any any idle increase or decrease, just it should keep running depending on how your company has it set up.

Yes, you can leave it overnight with no problem. The amount of fuel that will expand depends on how high you rev it up with the button. Generally you'll need to put it up two lines to keep the engine running. Experiment with it see what works best for you. 😎

Tried all this last night ,it didn't work.Slept in my jacket froze all night long,and stuck here in Fernley because CRST don't want us chaining up no more so we can't get over Donners Pass .Been here 2 1/2 days and have to babysit the gas pedal for any heat.

If you just leave it on without doing anything how long before the idle shutdown kicks in. I fell asleep with the truck on it was cold I work up a few hours later and the truck was off and the key was also in the off position. Did the truck do this alone? 2020 freightliner

If the key was in the off position, then that was something that you physically did... Maybe you were really tired? As far as the idle shut down, depending on how your company has it set up, once you use this method to keep the idle going, it should stay running indefinitely until you turn it off.

Sorry to hear that, I hate it when companies do that they have no regard for their drivers. The only thing I can suggest is trying to idle the truck with the trailer brakes disengaged and only the truck breaks engaged. Sometimes, but not all the time... This will trick the truck into keep running.

My APU works but AC won’t kick in no fan carrier comfort pro! 1 fault code on it! Hirshbach said they will change temp parameters on idle shutdown to 55 degrees. Tried it and still shuts down! My shop said takes a half and hour for the computer to enable it! HMMM!

Actually, just one click of the up arrow is enough to increase the idle so it won't shut down. No sense in max idle it just wastes fuel especially if you are waiting around. If you have an APU, use it for cooling or heating rather than idle to save fuel . . .

Theres a button for that, no need to adjust rpm because that's not what it's used for. But for company drivers, it's different. They may want to do this because hitting the gas cancels automatic shut down timer. Unfortunately, companies don't want to waste fuel and are aware of this. You could change the rpms to go higher and it won't cancel auto shutdown anymore. All it takes is a software update. It's pretty sad what companies do to their drivers. Stealing their miles and on top of that, not giving them enough weekly miles. Drivers do this not only for comfort, but to waste fuel so they can earn more points and get some money back on their daily consumption at truck stops.

@@publicname515 If memory serves me correctly, It's quite similar. Idle your engine, turn the cruise control on and press the set button and hold it down and that should bring the RPMs up.

Eventually it will affect the diesel particulate filter, but not until after a long while. The repair is easy. If you can, shut it off after it cools down and you don't need the air conditioning anymore. Then turn it on later if it gets hot.

That button is to keep the truck running for about 5 to 10 minutes after it says engine shut down on your dashboard. It's to get you to a safer location so you're not stuck right there at that exact spot.

Sounds like you have a programming glitch. I'd get that in and have them check it out, until then, you might try not setting your truck. Brakes only set your trailer brakes. Sometimes that tricks the system into thinking the truck is running on the road... Good luck!!

Yes, that is true. Usually idling when you first turn the truck on in the morning you would have it at the highest setting as lower settings make the engine chug more. Later on when you stop for a break, or stop for the night then you would idle it at the lower setting.
